Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yesterday morning I was hit by a car while riding my late 70's (yard sale find) Bianchi Squadra (see related post "I got hit..." in Road Cycling thread).

Today, I went to the shop and it appears my Squadra is doomed...the crank is bent (maybe the frame, they'll let me know) and it's an OLD Campy grouppo so replacing it will be a pain in the ass and prob. more than it's (the bike) worth.

Just need to wait for the estimates to come in and the insurance game to start.

Sorry to hear about your close encounter with a motor vehicle; I broke a clavicle and lost my first Capo that way. I do not agree with the assessment that a bent crank renders the bike "totalled," since one can easily find various nice cranksets on eBay, and crankset replacement is very simple surgery. In fact, for safety, aluminum cranks should be replaced periodically because of metal fatigue. If the frame is straight or only mildly bent, the bike can and should be repaired.
