Northern California - 1/13/08 Mt. Diablo Ride Report

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
What a beautiful day it was today. Skies were clear, temps were crisp, and winds were moderate as my son and I set off to climb the mountain. His previous two attempts resulted in him reaching the South Gate entrance and the junction. This third time would result in him reaching the summit. We took plenty of breaks and went at a leisurely pace but he still needed some assistance up some of the hard parts. Anyway, I'm quite proud of the little guy :D.

That is great! I can't get my 9 year old to ride more than a few miles, and my 7 year old can barely keep his balance. I'm really impressed.

.........AWSOME DUDE!!!!............
wow, mountain bike and a kickstand. If I rode a bike with the same relative weight to me, I don't think I could make it -- it'd be like riding a full DH mountain bike UP diablo. I'm very impressed.
Give him a big high five for me!!!!! Great job, the bike probably weighed more than he did. You must be proud of him!!!!

Great job. What a handsome young man.
Geez, make some of us look bad, whydon'tcha? :p
But really, good job to 'im!
Thanks for the kind words guys! I'll be sure to show him this thread. Yeah, I'm still quite amazed with his achievement especially after considering the weight to horsepower ratio. But kids have so much energy. I had to remind him to pace himself at the beginning because he kept trying to activate his so-called "turbo boost". His tank was running dry toward the end but he still got up. It took 4 hours (including breaks) to reach the top from our house and he was so happy on the descent he was singing and waving hello to the other cyclists on their way up :).
Hello Lance Armstrong Junior!!! Nice climb, kiddo!
