I am going to be spending quite a bit of time in brisbane and am looking to buy a bike. I was just wondering if someone could enlighten me about the geography of brisbane. Basically I want to know of the practicality of owning a fixed gear there? I would guess that it is relatively flat there being so close to the water but I have no idea. Anyways, anyone selling a bike in brisbane, a road bike preferably about a 54cm frame.

Dan

P.S. in fact now that I really think about it, I think I would really prefer a single speed/fixed gear (not really sure the difference). It could be really fun.

I know I'm late on this oen

But really.. I too have grown up in brisbane, and the reality is.. it depends where you ride as to the terrain and the kinda bike you want. I live western burbs and it's far too hilly for a single gear. I personally think the only place there is flat is along the river, as soon as you head over the southern and even the northern side of the bridge you get closer to the sky.

My advice.. sus it for yourself. Maybe hire a bike or get in touch with a few clubs and ask their opinion depending on where you want to ride. I'd wait til you're in brisbane.. hire a bike if need be and just test it all out yourself.

Also too.. by hilly, it's no mt. everest

Hi i been living in Brisbane for about 8 years, and definetly you need a bike with gears, if you really want to enjoy the ride without the suffering.
