Foo - Who needs writers?

Based upon the recommendations of a lot of Foosters, I rented a DVD of the first season of Weeds. After watching a couple of episodes, I am convinced that the fourteen year old hoodlums in my neighborhood could write that show. All they have to do is drop the F-bomb every other sentence.

Do folks on the West coast actually talk like that? It's not so much that I am offended by the word as I am disappointed in anyone who can't find a better way to express himself.

I've never seen the show, but you reminded me of something I've been thinking about.

My dad dislikes movie violence more than most. After he saw "No Country for Old Men" he told me he didn't like it--didn't know why it was getting such good reviews--that there was too much needless violence. And I thought, "Well, maybe it's SUPPOSED to be like that. It says something about the characters or society, and helps the movie make a point."

Maybe it's the same with the f-word in "Weeds."

hmmm I don't like weeds, I tried watching it and...I guess in some ways yes the kids are like that.

But they were like that when I lived out east too, so maybe florida is just the clean spot on North American.

It's not just the kids in the show. The writers have the adults talking that way too.

I have lived in Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, and Colorado and have never been around anyone except teenagers who talked like that. It just makes me wonder if the writers have never grown up.

I guess I just didn't notice the adults talking like that. so I guess I agree, I stopped watching after ep 3 or 4. I found the show beyond bad personally.

I think that's the point of it. In the 'perfect suburban heaven' depicted in the show there are things happening beneath the surface that you wouldn't normally expect adults to do. Do you know any 40 year old pothead accountants? I don't either, but there's one of those in the show too. The fact that they might swear more than you're used to is because you're probably not used to hanging around drug dealers either.
Anyway, it's fiction, and I thought it was a pretty good show. Some of it is a little out there, but it is TV. I also can't help but shudder in the beginning when all of the identical SUV's drive out of their identical houses on their way to their identical jobs. If you ask me, it's a perfect setting to have people who don't necessarily fit in.

I know quite a few actually. (well not accountants, but in the financial industry)

Maybe thats why I didn't like it, in all honesty, the show didn't seem like that big a stretch, it wasn't completely unrealistic to me, but it was naive in its methods...

Regardless of the F bombs, Weeds is just a weak show. It's only popular because it's centered on reefer.

What the **** do you care how they ****ing talk? If they want to say **** every ****ing sentence it's their own ****ing prerogatived. ****...

I just started reading that book this weekend (haven't seen the movie) and it's a pretty violent book - good but violent.

Rent Veronica Mars - highly underrated show.
