Ok, I don't quite understand Li-ion batteries. I know they have a 3 year shelf life. But what about recharging. Theoretically they don't have a memory loss, but...
What is the best process for extending the charge?
1- drain to almost nil and then recharge?
2- recharge after each use?
3- something else?
thanks

The ideal way to store an Li-ion battery to minimize capacity loss is at 40% charge stored in a cool temps like a refrigerator in summer or in your garage during winter. So discharge the battery and then don't recharge again until close to the time you are ready to use it. Sitting around at room temperature fully charged is a great way to permanently lose capacity fast.
BatteryUniversity.com has a wealth of information on batteries. Here is a link to a chart illustrating non-recoverable memory loss on Li-ion and Nickel-based batteries at various storage temperatures over a year's time.
