Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok. i have this ccm mountain bike (a 18 speed, i dont know) that is all rusty. i would like to know how to convert the breaks to coaster / back pedal break with just one gear if possible so i wont have any break to change or speed handle that allways break on me.
Please, i dont want any reply that tell me that it is not a good idea, almost impossible or anything useless. Just how to do it or a link that tell me how.
THanx in advance.

Most coaster brake hubs are spaced at 110 mm, so you may nee to add some washer to fit it to a frame built for a derailer gear system.

So, you want us to lie to you?;-) If the bike has vertical dropouts there is no safe way to do this. There will be no way to regulate the chain tension.

You want to use brakes, as breaks usually end up in a crash.

of course, i will have front wheel brake just in case :p
I want i solid, one-geared bike that will last for winter too and with less cable and mechanics as possible.
I wonder though if i can find wheels that already got that brake (coasted brake) installed?

It is spelled b-r-a-k-e-s
we aren't total spelling nazis here, but that word is an important one.
