Bicycle Mechanics - Sugino 75 (road) and silver Shimano 600 cranks - same bb?

I'm interested in swapping out the 175mm Sugino 75 road cranks (130 bcd double) on my singlespeed commuter for some 172.5 Shimano 600s I have lying around, but I want to make sure it's not going to screw up my chainline.

Also, money is tight so I really don't want to have to spring for a new bottom bracket if the tapers are different. If that's the case I would probably want to hold off.

The current bb is a sealed FSA something-or-other.

Not sure. I guess I'd need to get in there with calipers, eh?

Pull the BB and see what it is. ANd measure the chainline before you do. Then slap the right crank on and measure chainline (swap to inside or outside as you see fit). If different or have clearance issues, then you just bought yourself a new bb.

I have a set of 600s on my fixie and am almost positive the BB is not that long (119mm.). But I don't really remember, as I set it up before I had children. I don't really remember anything from that time in my life.

Sheldon Brown's bb database (http://sheldonbrown.com/bbsize.html#ultegra) suggests 113(115) bb for Shimano 600 cranks, this might me a manufacturer recommendation, or submitted data. Obviously it's different than the experience of people here. Unfortunately there's no size recommended for a sugino 75 double. So when you figure it out, submit the data so we can all look in one place in the future.

The tapers will be the same, just take the sugino off and see if the shimano works. Don't tighten it down super hard and look for the right chainline (http://sheldonbrown.com/chainline.html).

I definitely went with the Sheldon number when I put my 600s on. Thanks for jogging the sleep-deprived memory. Chainline is great.
