Southern California - Charity Ride - Rider Down

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Wow, I hope she heals up quickly. I'm going to volunteer at the LACBC this week so maybe she'll be there. Maybe they'll assign me to helping her out. ;-)

This isn't about you, Scootcore. It's about the privacy of the rider who was injured.
The thread starter publicly posted private info. Why?
If her true interest was the health of the fallen rider, she knew EXACTLY where to get that info. Now, maybe she would need to wait a bit to get that info, but she chose not to.
And instead of keeping it private, and showing some discretion, she chose to broadcast it.
The injured rider did NOT want it posted for all to see. Get the picture? Capice?
The "invasion" of privacy issue is mine, not the original poster. I was the one that brought the name into it and posted the name and the details of the accident. I found out the details on the accident by making phone calls to groups I knew were in the mountains that day, not from any Bike Forum information. I talked directly to the injured party and posted the result of that phone conversation. The Private Message that you believe was publicly posted was nothing more than stating someone crashed, no details on who, where, when, were they part of the group, were they OK, how it happened, was anyone else involved, etc?
It turns out the injured party was not part of the ride, was just out there riding. It doesn't mean anybody here has any less concern for her wellbeing. I made the decision to publish the information from my phone call to alleviate concerns people had.
So, to the injured party, I am sorry I posted the accident details for all to see. I did not consider that you may not have wanted the information shared. Mea Culpa.
This particular privacy issue is just between the injured party and me.

"This particular privacy issue is just between the injured party and me."
No, it's not. Not at this point.
I appreciate you taking the time to explain where you got your info, and your sense of responsibility in doing so, and the thought process that went into your fact-finding; but at this point, the privacy issue is not just between you and the injured party. It's been played out rather publicly, no?
The thread-starter chose to make it a public issue by starting this thread, rather than dealing with it privately, via PM. All sorts of unnecessary speculation ensued.
"It turns out the injured party was not part of the ride, was just out there riding."
Really now. Are you sure?

I didn't see Allez Oops as trolling. Honestly, when I read this thread yesterday, my first thought was...
why isn't ALL of the information being ascertained from Alicestrong (since it was her friend) before this post was made???
I felt uncomfortable for the rider who had gone down that all of this was being discussed and speculated without her input. I understand that what happened was something that needed to be mentioned here on the forums eventually, since it's an important safety issue with ride organization...but may have been best after all of the facts were gathered and as more of a PSA than a WTF happened here???
Just my two cents.

As ride leader and supporters, Joy and Jim simply expressed concern and relayed information about an injured rider to all those who were involved in this ride as any other human being would have done. I think whether Jennifer was officially part of this ride or not is irrelevant. We all try to look out for one another, regardless. There was no damage done to anyone by doing this. No feelings hurt. There's no reason to turn this into a federal case. Geez...

Well said, George. Now let's move on to the next ride. Unless I get banned, of course. Then you can all start a thread to call me names and post photoshopped pics of me. ;)

Do we have to wait until you get banned to do that?
I do agree,,,let's move on, we have riding to do. Everybody is healthy or recovering and will soon be riding. That is key here.

What the f**k? Someone fell on their f**cking bicycle. BIG DEAL. Let's all wish her a speedy recovery and MOVE ON. This happens every single day, it's not a big deal. Cycling can be dangerous.

Forum PM policy: no sharing of PM content unless both parties agree to it. To do otherwise nullifies the whole concept of Private Message. It sounds in this case like it wasn't intended maliciously, so perhaps cut some slack this time and move on would be the order of the day and not repeat the error. ;)

Unlike some people here, a few hours may elapse when I am *gasp* actually busy with other things and not near an online connection. Jeez..
Joy didn't wait for me to respond to her PM...I told her there was an injury related to her ride I was specific that "ER broken wrist, all was well, no big deal"...
Anyone interested can PM me for more details...

I greet customers, take appointments, sweep hair, bs with my stylists, tinker with my bike, eat, drink, and be on the internets from 9am to 9pm. And I can do all this at the same time, 5 days a week. You have a problem with that? :D:D:D

It falls under the general category of respect. Guidelines are loose. If someone has gotten upset, then they felt there was a lack of respect toward their privacy, fair enough?

Possibly fair enough, but AFAIK the person who raised the issue was the not person whose privacy may or may not have have been infringed.
