I'm having a tough time getting my FD set up correctly.

I have the limit screws set correctly, I think I do anyway. After setting the limits, I do what the Park website says, put the chain on the middle ring and the largest rear cog. I adjust the tension in the cable so there is no rubbing. But when I shift to largest ring and the smallest rear, the chain rubs the FD. If I pull on the cable when in this gear, there is room for movement up to the high limit. So this tells me that the cable tension is not correct, but if I make it tighter, then in the middle ring/largest cog, the chain again rubs the FD. What gives?

I am using LX shifters and an LX FD and it has a Mega Drivetrain sticker on it. Also, I have Bontrager cranks with a truvativ bottom bracket. Before trying all of this, I took a bash guard off of this setup and replaced it with a large ring from a truvativ Firex crank set, 44 teeth.

Thanks for any help.

With the shifter in its lowest position, for the smallest chainring, be sure that all of the cable is out of the shifter before attaching the cable to the derailleur. In this position there should be no slack, or very very little slack in the cable. Adjust cable tension if needed.

I did that, but just to be sure I checked what you said. That wasn't it. I still can't get this set up correctly. When I'm on the largest ring, the derailleur will not travel to the high limit stop and there is room for me to depress the shifter and then the derailleur will move to the stop. Is it my shifter that is the problem? Is there some kind of adjustment on the shifter that will make the derailleur travel farther per click or something? I'm confused. Thanks.

Alan

Have you perhaps twisted the FD slightly on the tube? When i get to this point in adjustment, I usually just go back to the beginning and re-install using Park's instructions. Saves my frustration.

I checked that as well. I went back and started fresh too. I'm stumped.

A lot of Shimano FD's have a little nub that the cable has to go over, not under, before it is secured to the FD. Not sure about the LX. Could that have anything to do with your problem? If the cable is not over the nub the FD doesn't travel quite as far as it should.
