Foo - Does anyone here have physical talent?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
After lurking here for so long it seems Foosters have the gift of gab but little to back up physical merits. Does anyone here have real world usable skills? Wood working, sewing, musical instrument playing, singing, cooking, metal-working, painting, iron-working, etc. ??? Do you change your oil, replaces your brake pads , check your tire pressure??? Can anyone here tie a bowline knot.....or even a square-knot? Step outside your cubicle and show off your talent. With pictures.

I play the piano! Sorry, no pics though.
I cook some mean eggs, too.
I evidently softly snore in a rhythmic, almost melodic fashion. Does that count?
I LOVE to cook. :) Baking is my speciality though. I make some mean chocolate chip cookies :)

If I visit Colorado, will you let me try your chocolate chip cookies? :D I love chocolate, I love cookies, and not surprisingly, I love chocolate chip cookies. :)
Baking is a talent for sure. But there is more to baking than following the recipe on the back of a Nestle package. What do you cook?

I play a TV remote like nobody's business. My fingers jump from channel 248 to 500 faster than most people think humanly possible. It is not natural talent mind you.....oh I practice and I practice. Just tonight I have been holding down the up channel button for almost 2 hours now.......one handed:eek:
I built a bike. And a few computers. Does that count for anything?
Oh, and I can tie my shoes! I don't know what kind of knot that is, but I can tie the **** out of it!

OP what do you think--we are all a bunch of hands connected to
a keyboard on a schiavo-gruel drip feed. OK, that last bit was tasteless
just like the gruel but:
skillz, I haz dem:
carpentry (old skill slightly rusty)
wiring (old skill slightly rusty)
plumbing (old skill slightly rusty)
cooking (eat daily)
horse shoeing (old skill slightly rusty)
back country guide (old skill slightly rusty)
build up own bikes (last week)
own piles of sketch books (as of now)
change own oil
etc.

Cool! Thats a skill I never had.
Not only a square knot, bowline knot, a ONE HANDED bowline knot, but my own BOW TIE knot, too!
I do most of the minor mechanical stuff on my vehicles, bikes, toys. Fly planes, bake, cook and more.

Musician:
Guitar
Keyboards
Flute
Tin Whistle
Some Banjo
Tres (Cuban instrument, like a guitar, probably related to a Russian Balalaika, 3 sets of paired strings)
I cook
I can drive anything with wheels on it, and do so in extreme conditions
Weird side, I can cross one eye at a time. ;)

Computers count. Shoe knots are tied by everyone. Those that can`t tie shoes are challenged. Older folks can use velcro shoes without penalty.

Well I'm not quite good at it yet, but I've built 4 so far.
Lacing wheels...sweet!
Normal car work counts!
Sharpening knives counts
Leather work counts
You can earn a living from all of these. Cool!
It skipped a generation. My daughters have all the talent.

Oh, I agree, definitely. I'd love to be able to make stuff.
There's a whole hubbub drama elsewhere on the forums about a sewing thread.

Siu does have the KYA talent but I`m more interested in the talent that can earn a living. Blue collar talent. Seems that so many folks work in a cubicle pushing paper these days. This thread is about carpentry, plumbing, art, cooking , saw milling, welding, machining , wood working, etc .........making something with your hands/mind.

I can lick my eyebrows.
Pics or gtfo.
Oh, I made and installed a shelf a week or so ago. I guess that counts as carpentry. And I did it without the aid of power tools, as well.

I was a drummer for 10 years... I still want to play sometimes, but I usually just see what's on the teevee.
That's probably the only thing I could do that wasn't painfully half-assed.

Let's see.... can somewhat work on my own cars, mechanically. I can do body work but not paint.
I used to create by hand caligraphy signs for a while as a side hobby but always got high on the fumes of the ink. By the end of my shift the signs got fancier and fancier.
Love to do merchandising, it brings out my creative side. I won a lot of contests and a few awards with it.
I can be good at writing for professional and legal purposes, believe it or not. (I've been offered jobs regarding this - but it's not my thing). I have to be in the mood for it or it has to have meaning for me in order for it to come out with a strong message.
I used to:
- play the clarinet.
- polevault.
- make an ethernet cord in under 2 minutes.
- I'm quite handy with power tools. I posted pictures from this past summer when I was putting up shelves at work.

Thanks but I`m not really a bad ass. You Could do it. Matter of fact any one here on BF that is strong enough to hold a saw could do it, including the women. There is very little risk involved. You just gotta know/use the right equipment.

There is no start to my phyical talents.:p
I've laced about 4 wheels so far,
I can tie a reef knot, clove hitch, do a square lashing and a round lashing. I've forgotten how to do the bowline though.
I can change the fluids, plugs, points and ancillaries on my cars,
I can sew well enough for hiking clothes (ones to wear in the bush where people can't see you).:D
I can't throw, hit or catch a ball. I can't saw or cut things in a straight line. I can't do any tricks on my bikes. I can't dance.
My skills and talents are more mental than physical. Which is why I push paper and chase numbers in an office.

I'm one of those intellectuals who can't fix or make anything.
Unless you're afraid of heights.
Everyone is afraid of heights. You outgrow it with experience. I was afraid of heights once.
