Foo - Poll: What beer should I make.

his is my 2nd round of beer I am going to be making. First batch was a Chocolate Stout. Should I make a Red Ale, Pale Ale or a Brown Ale?

I'm brewing a "Fat Tire" clone this weekend. I just bottled a Robust Porter. :beer:

Pale (american). It is still nice even with brewing faults, but they will show up enough that you can learn.
Use a liquid yeast (California Ale). Keep it at 18-20 Celsius (can't be bothered converting it).
Use Cascade or Amarillo hops. (i like Amarillo)
DON'T Secondary. Leave it for two weeks, bottle it.

If you meant english pale - use goldings hops and english ale yeast.

OR - Make an IPA. Fun for all the family :)

I still say IPA. It'll be rounding out nicely for the start of spring.

But, screw 'normal' beers, make a belgian strong ale.

Red

Anything but pale ale. Go against the hipster trend and make a real beer where hops are used only to touch up the taste of the malt.

OR - Make an IPA. Fun for all the family :)

I currently have a plain amber in the fermenter....

I just brewed a stout this weekend. The recipe claims it's similar to Guinness so we'll see. I just hope it's drinkable as I'm still a bit of a rookie at this whole brewing thing. I voted for the red ale - sounded interesting anyway.

I've been brewing for around 8 or 9 years. For a second batch, any of the 3 you've listed will be fine. There's not really anything I can think of to go so horribly wrong with any of those, short of contamination, which would totally ruin the flavour.

When you want to start playing around with experimental brews, PM me. I've made strong ales over 20% a.b.v., Imperial IPAs with triple digit IBU ratings (which didn't just taste like sucking on raw hop buds), and crazy things like ultra-caffeinated stouts (Fast 'n' Stupid was a 10% a.b.v. with 300mg of caffeine/pint.)

Pale Ale is my choice. Then I expect an invite to come and give it my tasty opinion :)

Go with the red ale. Pales are a dime a dozen these days. If I made a beer, it would at least be one I don't generally get my hands on.

Brown Ale in honor of Tom S. who just went through a night of "brown" (now that it's over we can make a little fun right??).

pale ales are o.k., as long as they're not IPA's. not enough body to stand up to the hops.

by red ale, do you mean a Flanders red or an Irish red? 'cause an Irish red is just a pale ale with some darker barley malts tossed in.

i like brown ales rather a lot, though. so that'd be my vote.
