...sucks donkey ass.
That is all.
Was repaired and is presently indexing. Please check back in a little while.

Nope. Still terrible.
Perhaps explaining what you don't like about it? Considering it is fast, doesn't return a blank page half the time (give or take), it's a step forward in my opinion. The old search just couldn't handle the size of the database any more.
It horrible because when I search via my user name for threads that I have been posting in it gives me all the posts I have made in that thread, whether I search via 'show posts' or 'show threads'.
In effect it makes it impossible to find threads which I have been active in over the last few days as there are way too many hits on the search. Urgh.

^^^ I just noticed this as well, and I agree completely. Please change the username search to be the way it was before, in which the username's most recently replied to post is listed at the top of the page, and is bold when there are new replies since the last visit.

New search function looks good once I figured out that it's essential to narrow down scope by forum and date range, otherwise way too many hits and the ones I wanted seemed to end up with 30% relevance and less.
also, I've asked this before but can't seem to get an answer. Is there any Boolean search syntax. If I want to search a phrase, or two words (but not either word) how do I enter it. quotes? plus signs? or is that just not a feature?

Don't like it. The way it displays is not as convenient as the original format.

I usually search ElJamoquio as a username to see what threads I've posted in have a response.
It's now giving me threads from years ago at the top of the list.

...so then choose to search from the past X years/months/week/days, and sort by date. Is that so difficult?

Do that yourself, look the results, and then get back to us.....

Ok, here are screenshots: first, my search criteria; second, my results.

The results did give me threads started by bdcheung sorted by date, with the newest first. I'm pretty certain this was the issue previously discussed, but if it isn't let me know and I can see if I can reproduce the problem.
I don't want a list of threads and when I posted. I want a list of threads that I have posted in that has the ones with recent activity (regardless of the poster) at the top. So far as I can tell that is no longer possible through search.
The frustrating thing is that the new search is still pretty bad for keyword searches.

... and it sucks again. There are at least two recent threads I have posted in that do not show up in the list when I search my username. One is titled "Work Screw-Up" in the Foo section. Another is titled "Craigslist jerks" in the Road Cycling section. There are probably a few more that I don't remember.
What's going on?

I searched a thread today and I get a multi-page return, each page with a single link to the first post of the thread, not the actual post I was searching for. Firefox on a mac.
I liked the search much much better before. I never had a problem with it. Now it is horrible. If you want some input here...
- First there should be a "Recent Topics" button somewhere on the top of the main page that you click and it brings you to all the threads you participated in the last 14 days. This is how it is on some other forums I am on and is soooo much better.
- Since we dont have that and you have to search you name manually, the default should be by post date with the newest first. Not some random % generated.
- If you show results as threads it doesnt show all of the pages available. It just gives the title which is very annoying. You cant choose were you want to start in the thread.
- It always lists your own name as the thread starter, instead of who started the thread.

The new search function is really really bad- even when it worked (at the beginning it was a pain) to find your recent threads for the comments made above (searching on user name). Last week it would not find my most recent posts. Now I can't even rank on post date so I only can get a ranking based on "relevance" which is of no help whatsoever. Please give us the old search function back. I can't find any of my recent posts anymore.
