General Cycling Discussion - Cateye Daylites

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi Guys,
Just bought a pair of these babies off Ebay, and they're hot, hot, hot! Twin Halogen lamps and rechargable batteries.
I put them on this morning, and the chickens in the back thought it was daybreak, and started cock-a-doodling!!!
Urm, maybe the second part didn't happen...but it could've!?!

You can get some real bargains or end up paying more than you intended...
I mainly use it for selling,
I try to resist browsing as I'm easily tempted
Now how do I persuade my wife that there is room in the house for another bike? :D

I buy stuff occasionally. Never anything too expensive, and I place bids that I consider ridiculously low. If I get it fine, if not fine. Usually things that I kinda/sorta want to try out but not willing to pay retail for.
I got into a bidding war once with a neophyte. I wanted a bike that he also wanted. I kept bidding higher, and so did he. Finnally, he bid $700 on this bike, and won the auction. I bought a nearly identical bike several days later for $330, and mine had fewer miles, too!
What you have to do on eBay is the following:
Don't get into bidding wars with newcomers
Look for auctions which end on slow times (weekday mornings, etc)
Look for items which are poorly listed (my bike was listed as a "Canondale", which meant that nobody who queried "Cannondale" knew about it)
Expect the merchaindise to be less than it is described as
Figure out what the maximum amount you wish to pay is, then add maybe $& to that amount (so that your bid will be higher than those ending in 0 or 5). Then wait until 1 minute before the end of the auction. Place that amount for a bid, and wait.
There is a service called esnipe, which, for a small fee, will do just this. It is a good idea for an item which you really want, but the auction ends at an inconvenient time.

Neophytes can sometimes create their own problems. At a used bike sale once, I saw a bike that I wanted. However, someone for whom the bike was much too tall laid claim to it first. Trying to persuade him that he might rack himself very painfully on that bike would have sounded like I was just trying to trick him out of the bike. I had to leave shortly, so I never got to see if he actually got the bike or not. I only hope that one of his friends talked him out of it so that he doesn't sing soprano for the rest of his life....
You know, he might be able to ride it, anyway!
There is a "Fred" who frequents a local coffee shop that I see nearly every afternoon. He is about 5'8", and he rides an old Panasonic road bike with a 27" frame! I know the bike (it was sitting in the used bin at the LBS for a long time, and he probably got it, with a professional tune-up, for less than the $100 asking price that I last saw on it.
Watching him ride this scaffold-on-wheels is like watching a person rollerskate on stilts. Still, he manages somehow, and he does have some pipe insulation on the top tube to soften the impact. Probably hits the tube every time he stops.
