I seriously miscalculated today and I cannot determine where or when. But, after my ride today, 2.5 hours, I am physically exhausted.
Pre-ride, I had three scrambled eggs, potatoes, two pieces of toast and coffee. During the ride, I consumed two bottles of Gator-Ade and three of plain water.
When I got home, I had a grilled ham and cheese sandwich with veggie chips. I also took a Vitamin B complex capsule that has over 500% of the RDA on all the B vitamins. I even had two Pop Tarts to get some sugar coing.
Yet, I am so physically exhausted all I can think about is sleep. Of which, I got plenty last night, about 7.5. At my age, 7.5 has always been more than enough.
I have a routine doctor's appointment Wednesday and I am going to bring it up then.

For me, that would be way too much breakfast.
It would cause my body to spend energy to digest all that food, and I would feel logy and bloated and tired.
I don't know if that is your usual pre-ride breakfast or not.
I generally have no more than a bowl of real oatmeal, small juice and some skim mlk, and it lasts me just fine.
However, we all react to food in extremely different and varied ways and I am amazed by the differences in metabolism and nutrition needs from one to the next .
Anyway, just a thought.

Thanks, Fox. Most often I have a bowl of cereal, like Wheaties or the like, with a banana or two. But, I have had eggs, et al, before and didn't get this exhausted.
The only thing different was I had always eaten at least one banana. Today, we were ought. I took two potassium tablets and am getting better.
One of the problems I have that I forget sometime is high blood pressure. I take a lot of meds, including a diuretic, which results in low potassium.
Next time I am out of bananas, I am going to take two potassium tablets BEFORE I ride!

Was the weather any different, a couple of hours battling into a headwind would exhaust most people!
As a side note on potassium, I often run my motorcycle at a track in the california desert. On one occassion I forgot my salt and potassium tablets but decided it was no big deal. At around 2.00pm I had to pull myself off the track as I was feeling completely exhausted, absoultely spent. I pulled into the pits and my physical appearance must have scared someone into finding me plenty of water / gatorade and salt /potassium tablets. Ever since then I've been a firm believer in replacing everything that you sweat out of your body not just the water.

That sounds like quite a bit pre-ride food. Especially if it wasn't at least a couple hours before starting. Any chance you're still a little fatigued from a previous ride? A lot of times, a bad ride goes back to things I did (or didn't) do or eat in the couple of days prior to the ride. And sometimes, you just have a bad day.
If you use salt at all, which seems unlikely since you have high BP, check out Morton Lite Salt. It's a combination of sodium chloride (table salt) and potassium chloride. Cheap potassium supplementation, that comes with the sodium.
