I have been looking around for a good used roadbike since i moved to a location with good riding areas and really need one to get around town and school. I've pretty much decided what i want but would like a more educated opinion on the matter. what do you think of this auction and of the price?

You could buy a new 2002/2003 version of the Trek 2000SL for less than $900.00, (see: http://www.idahomountaintouring.com/bikes_Trekroad2.htm), the second one even less. So if the auction is going to close over $500, I would think twice.
A road bike is a difficult fit, and you are not familiar with what to buy I would advise you to look around a few LBS and try them and see if you can find something within your budget. On-line, you can always look at bikes from JensonUSA for example @ http://www.jensonusa.com/store/dept.aspx?id=155.
Good luck.

Yes, i have gone to some LBS and they carry mostly bianchi and fuji bikes and had only a few things under 1000$. nothing in my budget that was even close to my size. i know i need a 60 or 61 from what he said at the bike shop but i don't think i'd even be able to tell the difference between a bike of exactly the right size and one a little bit off. the trek 2000 new was 1300 wasn't it? that's what i've seen at least...

well, thanks for the tips. i'll keep looking into it... the auction just ends really soon and i think i'll bid if it doesn't go any higher.

thanks

thanks for your replies.. the bike ended up going for 570 and i did not buy it. i'm really considering spending exorbanant amounts of money at one of my two LBSs now. everyone has stressed the importance of the proper size but when i went there the guy just kinda looked at me and asked my hight and said a 61 or 62 would fit me fine... didn't seem like he was going to do too much for me so i thought i would just buy a bike on ebay. i'm still looking at the second one i posted but know nothing about the brand.

any thoughts on a motobecane mirage or mirage pro as i put in the second link i posted?

thanks...
