Southern California - Ivan Dominguez is in the house

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey, just doing my part to keep you off street corners.:D
It's debatable, and certainly not clear enough (no pun intended) for me to express complete confidence in his reported innocence.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lance_armstrong#Allegations_of_drug_use
I do think he (Lance Armstrong) is a great cyclist, however.
Just have doubts on his modus operandi. Between the accusations of doping and the fact that he only raced one race per year - the 'one race per year' thing is the bigger asterisk by his name in my mind.
Eddie Merckx raced all year long, baby, and won more than just the tours, more than just the classics, more than just the road events. Like Ivan Dominguez, he competed on the track as well.
You're preaching to the choir. I've been around pro cyclists long enough to know that not all of them dope, many of them do, and most of those that do know how to beat the tests.

Take a look at Ivans Myspace page and you will see ;)
I'm not a myspace stalker, so I wouldn't know . . . :p
Lemme go take a look

Yeah...errr... I was just practicing. The sermon doesn't start until later on, right? We're doing rehearsals...right... errr... anyway, let's go through those psalms... see if we can make them a bit less depressing. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4tWBILtrSU) (see 1:32 for reference)

I guess I should have been more specific. I didn't need a wikipedia article cited to convince me.
Actually, I don't know who that is. A racer? Do you know Lance? Any chance of getting him on here? :)
You have got to be kidding!!

Back on topic, Ivan told us to ask questions so let's have it. I'll start.
Ivan,
Where are you training right now and would you ever consider joining a BikeForums GMR ride sometime?

It's Dominguez.
Hola Ivan.
Since there are different names for it I should state just for the record that GMR is a long steep road. Long climb.
So in other words, "Ivan, would you like to join us on a really long, steep climb?"

Last Saturday? No. He didn't. Why would he?
Right now? He's a bit busy with the UCI World Cup.

Can you post some detailed pics/specs of your bike?
And if you weren't sponsored, what bike would you personally be riding?

Yes. He did. He was on the Montrose ride with Enzo. They were there for training or according to Enzo, for some recovery. I don't think he's too busy with the World Cup. He might go watch. I don't think he's raced a UCI track race since he left Cuba. Why don't you ask him?

Really. The guy happens to ride a bike for a living. He's still human and he still enjoys wasting time on his computer. From what I've seen he's always on MySpace. Why wouldn't he be on here. I can confirm that he's friends with Enzo as I've seen them together. In real life, riding their bikes.
From the number of blogging bike racers, and the number of kids in various national team kit sitting in the hotel lobby last night with their laptops, it's not at all hard to believe.
Racers spend a lot of time on the road and have to do something in their down time. Surfing the web is portable and you can do it while laying back in a hotel bed.

Oh, I thought she was referring to the Charity Ride that was last Saturday... You know, redal, this is either the 2nd or 3rd time we've had a slight mis-communication. First it was the asterisks thing, now this.
This relationship is going to have to end unless we work these issues out.

It's funny. Rahsaan called my house last night and spoke to my wife after he had arrived at the Rock training camp. My wife was asking him about the accommodations. They are in a $35k a month house in Malibu. Rahsaan said the house is great, but was upset that the internet service sucked.

No worries. I thought you answered Alice kind of harsh, so I gave you the same kind of answer back. I didn't mean any harm.
BTW I watched that link from yesterday when I got home. I've never really watched Monty Python but that had me cracking up.

Probably all of them are trying to get online at the same time and the router can't handle that many connections and the pipe split 15 ways or whatever starts seeming like a cheap modem.
He's not staying up there during World Cup, is he? I just saw him on the start list for the points heats. I'm going to try to get down there this afternoon to catch the women's scratch and men's points heats. Should be exciting. I'm kind of surprised how few men are doing the points race-- it's two heats and 8 advance, so it will only be 16 on the track for the final, unless there's a third heat that Tissot hasn't posted yet. 24 is a much more exciting race. I guess points isn't an olympic event so people aren't focusing on it this year.

Justin and Rahsaan were supposed to race. When I talked to Justin Sunday, he said Rock wasn't racing. I never even asked Rahsaan because I hadn't looked at the start list. I'm sure he would have told me if he was racing when I asked him for tickets.

Haha, not quite recovery for me, but I went short and I took it really, really LAZY. I sat in the middle of the group the whole time, and we all cut off early on the last short climb and went straight to Sierra Madre. I had a long week and my legs were so tired. I scoffed at the thought of anything resembling the worlds "working", "pulling", or "long." haha

Both of them would have a pretty decent chance in the points race this year. Rahsaan is almost certainly signed in-- they make all the start lists after sign-in, so the officials were already working hard last night (A couple of us go down early to get all the start lists copied and put in mailboxes so they're already there when the teams show up in the morning).
Way more press coverage this year than last-- about 100 journalists registered already, and there are usually some latecomers, too.

I was just asking, because this thread has become a discussion about him but not really him on here. I believed in Santa Claus as a child, and I do believe this may, in fact, be the man himself who logged on. I'd love to hear his answers to questions.

Oh, I know dude you werent dude, don't worry, haha... I just don't want to make anyone think I'm some kind of badass that uses a pretty fast group ride for recovery. I can just picture it now, "I hear that Enzo does Simi on his recovery days." :D But yeah, I went as easy as I could possibly go on a group ride, I almost considered pulling off early, I'm glad Chepe and Ivan skipped the last climb. The only thing that kept me going till the end was the Peanut Butter Shake at the Sierra Juice Co.
Are you racing this weekend? If you're going to the track for the World Cup at all, shoot me a PM.

He was on the start list for heat 1, but not on the finish list (not even as a DNS), so he must have withdrawn in time to not get the DNS, but tissot didn't repost. Tissot is still reporting 2 heats, but fixedgearfever is reporting 3 (one finished already).

I haven't heard back from him still. I really don't think he raced. He would have definitely said something, especially last night when he was in Malibu. I'm sure they were going to have a full day at camp. He lives right by the track now, so I really can't see him driving out there to go back to the track today. When I talked to him, he was in traffic on his way to the Bu. But tonight! Taylor Phinney will be riding for the gold. I'll be there!
Speaking of Rock Racing, I saw them this morning on PCH headed north out of Malibu! It's always so amazing to see how easy they make it look, JRA.

They all looked like they could have been sitting around Starbucks, for how easy they made it seem to tool along at 20+mph. I hate all of them.
