Fifty Plus (50+) - Question about those wire basket panniers

I saw and like D.G.'s set-up, and read wirh interest TSL's comment......
so tell me please, do they clip your heels? I had baskets mounted like
those as a kid, and again on an old three speed about 15 years ago and
my achilles tendon took quite a beating from time to time. I've been interested
in investigating purchasing a modern set but I don't particularly want
to go lame in the process.

I currently use an old wire milk-crate bolted onto my rear rack which
doesn't allow me to tow my Cannondale Bugger (seat post hitch). The
wire basket type panniers would work great for me assuming there's room
for my size 9 1/2 feet to crank the peddels without hurting my heels.

No clipping at all, at least for me, whether folded up or folded out full of groceries (or whatever). The only little tricky part is the clip that keeps it folded, it's always a bit stiff and the folded basket has to be "just so" to make it work. But it works. :)

Not a problem for me. I guess it could be if the geometry of your bike was wrong.
