I am just wondering if anyone has any opinions about these two bikes. The Global is just the base model. There is only a $20 difference in price so I am just looking for any input from someone who has one and what they like or dislike about them and maybe if one has a better track record than the other. I started riding to work a few years ago because of gas prices and started to enjoy it. I think it might be time to upgrade from my Wal-Mart Roadmaster to something lighter and more paved trail friendly. It is roughly 8 miles each way and I usually ride four days a week and on some weekends. Any advice or opions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Assuming you mean the Specialized Globe, a better Trek comparison to it would be the 7.2 FX.

The 7200 uses the same frame style, but has a suspension shock and seatpost. Also the 7200's handlebars are more friendly to a more sitting back position by being slightly swept back and more upright. The Globe and FX lines are more flat to a aid a slightly more aggressive position. The seat on the 7200 is more comfort and upright oriented than the others too.

Do the differences of the 7200 appeal to you? the globe and FX lines are going to be a bit "faster" and more efficient, the 7200 will be a more of a laid back and "comfy" bike.

The Specialized Crossroads would be a better contender for the 7200.

How tall are you?

EDIT, both Treks have the suspension seat post...

Thank you for the reply. I am 5'8". I plan on riding each one when I am ready to buy but they both looked close to me as far as the way they would fit. The last bicycle I bought was a mountain bike from walmart over 10 years ago. I don't mind a slightly faster ride I just don't like how much you have to lean forward on the road bikes. I usually ride about 45-60 miles a week to work and home, and occassionally on the weekend to get out of the house. I was wondering if one brand might be better than the other and choose those two bikes since they looked similar and were in the same price range. Any further thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Don't go by the brand. Both are respected brands, and the components are going to be similar between the same price range. Ride them and go with the one that feels better. If they feel equal, go by which shop you like the most, looks or price. Know that either one will be far better than another Xmart bike.

The FX and Globe are, as far as riding position, going to be very similar to a mountain bike.

Go ride them and see, good luck and let us know.

Thanks, I had planned to ride each one to see if one fit better than the other. I am glad to hear that both brands are good. I will post which one I get in a few weeks. Thanks for the help.
