i tried to add this on to an earlier post, but i dont think it was notticed. i have a nexus 3 and nexus 7 speed hub, both of which have coaster brakes. my hope is to take the coaster part off and have a simple freewheeling hub. has anyone done this? i know that on older coasterbrake hubs one could use a freecoaster or similar bmx converter, is this something that would work for a newer internally geared hub? i am a mechanic so i do have some mechanical abilities, but was hoping for a clearish how-to, otherwise ill have to tare into it and figure something out myself. thanks!

Dang, I was hoping to hear someone was exploring how to turn a Nexus-8 into a multi-speed fixie.
Yes, it possible. I did it on my 8 speed Nexus. Was simply a matter of removing the various bits and pieces from the left side of the hub until you can remove the two brake shoe halves. Then simply put it all back together and you're off to the races.
In some gears (lower as I recall), you get an odd ratcheting feel when backpedaling. Then again, backpedaling wasn't my intent, I did it cause I was always inadvertently jamming on the brake while standing/coasting.

Would you be interested in trading some Nexus8 parts? I'd like to add a coaster brake to a Nexus8 Redline.
The detailed compatibility tables at hubstripping.wordpress.com make me think it's possible.
