Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Saw a Takara road bike for sale in my neighborood. It is Suntout equipped, in beautiful condition. Does anyone know or own(ed) any of these bikes and can comment ? Thanks.

My sister purchased a Takara from Mike's Bikes in Colombus, Ga. around 1980 she was just getting into cycling. I don't know much about the line but hers was a low to med end bike made in Japan with fairly low end Suntour componants. It was a decent bike and she got years of service out of it. I haven't seen any Takara's fpr years.
In Sheldon Brown's discussion of Japanese bikes he list Takara but provides no info.

My mother bought an old Takara to cruise around on. I worked on it (maintanance).
It was a 'good-enough' bike - not special, but reasonable. It will get you around, would be a good commuter or touring bike.

One of our oldroads.com/vintage lightweights regulars suggested that Takaras were spec'd in Oklahoma and built by Kawamura, Nishiki's frame builder.
