I will be in town for a week of riding starting Sat night and wondered if anyone knew of a group that might be riding from southern LA (I'll be in the Newport Beach/Irvine area) to SD this Sunday before the chance of rain moves in for the workweek. I heard it's a nice long ride there (85ish to La Jolla or 100 to LJ and back to Oceanside to catch the commuter trains back to LA). If anyone knows of a group, or is interested in joining me, I would leave to hear about it. I'd even be willing to ride 50ish on the Coast Highway south and turn around and come back and skip the train part, although I thought it would be cool to say I biked from LA to SD (not to mention even more scenic).

I have heard about several nice group rides during the week and plan to meet some of you at those, but I was hoping not to have to ride 100 mi by myself on Sun on a route I don't know.

PS- I am a strong cat 3 racer who plans on riding at nice base building pace.

Thanks

Jeff

If you're riding down from LA to SD, you'll most likely pass through Camp Pendleton. Be sure to bring a photo ID; otherwise the alternative is riding on the shoulder of I-5 freeway.

Here's a route from a previous SoCal BF ride (Burrito Century). Irvine Amtrak station down to SD downtown Amtrak station, then train back up for 100 miles of riding.

Here's another one (Slacker's Century). Out and back HB<->Oceanside for 100 miles.

If you'll still be here the Sunday after (Jan 27th), then this will be fun (Pie Ride):

I don't know of any LA/OC cycling groups doing a ride like this this weekend, since I live in SD.

Have fun! :D

First my teammates backed out of the trip and now my host has backed out as well. So, the bottom line is I am not coming. Maybe another year. Instead, I am heading to Orlando (or possibly Tuscon). Thanks for the help.
