I got my rollers in the mail today so I can finally get back on my bike. I feel like I belong in here again. I just had a little while to play today so I pulled my bike out of the box (I know, don't harass me for keeping it packed), put it together and set up the rollers. I was just trying it out for about a mile but I didn't have any falls and was much steadier even after that short distance. Tomorrow I'm going to step it up and do a short warmup to get my legs used to riding again, maybe ten miles and see how I feel the next day. Wish me luck.

It'll be interesting to hear how it works out for you. I'm kind of entertaining the notion of getting one myself.

I gave up on rollers. They snag my hair.

The guide specifically said not to use it while drinking. And I thought they would be more fun...

for fun, you have to pop a wheelie.

I'm just a weekend rider. Was doing 20-40 miles once or twice a week in Barbados and wanted to be able to ride here. After 1 mile on these I could stay up and on them without much trouble and it's interactive, not like a trainer. You are actually riding. I would say that if you can get out and ride, it's much better. but if your option is trainer or rollers or no riding at all it seems like this is going to be the best.

Yay, lucky!

About that warning in the manual. Let me just say that it's, um, definitely not a good idea to ride on rollers after a few shots of Jack.

Please tell me you didn't need the manual to tell you that :D :p

I need to get a trainer. What's a good quiet trainer that won't take half my paycheck?

Good luck with your roller riding!

Really? Then VegaVixen must have tricked me, since I learned to ride rollers after having had several drinks. I still need to borrow DaveSANYYZ's rollers sometime to see whether I can figure out how to ride rollers while fully sober.

Hmm. I'll have to check into it more. Thanks for the link, Tasr.

To the OP:

GREAT! It took me about 4 hours of leaning against the wall before I was able to ride without support. I still use a chair to get going, but once you get up to speed, it's fine. My aunt was watching me once and commented "that looks like you are riding on ice"

Oh yeah. And then there's the whole "boredom" factor. Ride in front of the TV (with a fan. You will soak the carpet with sweat without one) with a good action film going.

That is all

Cry me a river. Not going to get any sympathy from someone who has been riding on ice/snow covered roads with temps around 0-15F for as long as I can remember.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

He's not in Florida at the moment. He's in Mauritania. And otherwise unable to ride his bike. :)

be careful lucky--I like me some rollers but they are twitchy.
If you wear a helmet until you are comfortable no one will
think you are a fred.

edit: you can wear a helmet even then--this might be the best idea.
rollers are fuuuun but I hear people take spills off them. Done so
myself.

Right now I live on the left coast of Africa. The roads here suck and the people won't look out for you. It's just not safe to ride outside. When I get back to FL I'll probably sell my rollers.

I bypassed the helmet. I didn't actually find it that hard to get started and learn. I set up next to a chair on my right with nothing on my left. I started out riding really slow and holding on but once I got to about 10 MPH I let go and was quite twitchy at first but got used to it pertty fast. It was hot as hell in my room though. Right now I'm still being cautious, only going about 13-15 mph and trying to get used to not going anywhere.

Oh, so maybe you should change the location in the user control panel?

I could. But it doesn't really matter. There isn't anyone from BF or Foo on my coast anyway. I think I can honestly claim it all for myself and I'll be back in Florida in about 8 months.
