Hey guys,
After considerable thinking, I’ve decided to permanently end posting in the So Cal Region. I’m someone who has consistently received both positive and negative attention on a regular basis, and due to the disruption from the negative attention, my not presence not being felt on here is the only solution that brings me peace of mind. I’ll be logging onto Bikeforums.net to read the wonderful information that can be found on this website. There are many wonderful members who provide a myriad of insightful knowledge, advice and humor from all over the world who log on here regularly. I will continue to read (but not post in) the many forums on Bikeforums.net. I will also still be checking PMs and if anyone wishes to contact me, I’ll respond via PM only. To all the riders and friends I’ve met in the past two years, you know where to find me, and I look forward to future rides and experiences with each and every one of you.

I considered offering posing tips but I thought it best to teach by example.

Description: A cold morning (47°) of hill repeats on Via Del Monte in PV. Spent most of my time in my 29 so as not to stress my dinged ITB. The first time I was able to keep my cadence above 80, even on the 9% parts, but my fitness level is shot so I was slower the other times. Kept passing the cute guy from Team Ironfly going up or coming down, but didn't see him after the fourth time... I guess he had to go to work.

Girl2: "Of course, didn't you know that old, fat and married is the new young, fit and single?"

Location: Peet's Coffee (Torrey Highlands)
Beverage: Dark Chocolate Mocha Freddo
Description:
I selected this Peet's location because I know it was a meeting point for some of the San Diego Trek Store group rides, and It's pretty near my house. I figured there would be a high posing quotient. As I found, it was 8.25 miles from my house, so in true poser fashion, I rode passed it for a mile, then immediately turned around so I had ridden 10 miles by the time I stopped.
I wasn't wrong about this place. There were about three cyclists that arrived around the same time I did. One guy on a black Giant with yellow accents, matching his kit. There were also two people, a man and a woman, on bikes setup for time trials/triathlons. The woman was an attractive blonde. Soon after that couple left, the Kings rolled in. Five guys, probably in their late thirties or early forties, all on titanium bikes (4 Hollands, 1 Seven). All had Chris King headsets, and either Record or Dura-Ace groups. Rollin' hard. Three of them had Canari kits on, and the other two had Jelly Belly kits. They showed how it's done.

Time: 7:00-7:30PM
Location: Jungle Java (Ocean Beach)
Beverage: Hawaiian Hazelnut Coffee
Description:
Having not ridden in awhile, and feeling it necessary with the Pie ride coming up, somewhat on a whim I decided I would ride to Ocean Beach from work. I rode in my work clothes, which was good, as I was wearing a grey shirt and black pants, matching the black and grey helmet on my head, matching the gray and black Timbuk2 Messenger bag I was carrying, and matching the black and aluminum fixed gear bicycle I was riding. I suppose a pair of skinny jeans or manpris would have been more apt, but I don't own such garments.
I rode down Newport Avenue, and in front of Jungle Java there was a guy on a fixed gear riding slowly in circles and trackstanding. A posing omen, this must be the spot. Before settling down to pose, I locked up my bike and walked down Newport Avenue. There was a street fair going on (a weekly occurrence here) so I took a gander. I saw a guy in a robot costume walking and talking like a robot. I should have taken a picture, but you may remember that I am full of fail.
Back at Jungle Java, the prime posing places on the front patio were taken, so I went to the garden in the back. I had noticed that there were two bikes in the shop. I think they were both fixed gears: one Pake, and something else that had a quill stem. Not too many people came and went.

- beverage : Medium Roast Coffee
- duration: 35 minutes
- description – A Steelie Pose. I decided to take it easy the day before the Pie Ride and cruise over to Velo Culture in Bird Rock to see if they had the correct size Campy BB for my Stowe so I can switch to a Campy crank. Velo Culture is Ground Zero in SD for retro/fixie pretentiousness , but they do have a lot of old parts lying about. The head wrench seemed a bit distracted, probably because he has come to the realization that he has run out of body parts to pierce, but he did rummage around a bit, concluding that he didn't have the right BB in the shop. He said the owner of the store might have one in his "private stash" so he scribbled my number on a random scrap of paper and promised to call. I've been through this before with them. There will be no call.
Just down the street is Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, a place I have never tried. Decent posing potential. Cafe tables right on the sidewalk. I placed my steelie in a prominent spot and lounged with my coffee at a sidewalk table. I saw a fair number of fixie riders pass by, and lots of pedestrian traffic. The coffee was good, but not Peets good. I may return to pose again.

Description:
Being the last weekend, I desperately needed to get a pose in under the wire. I rode from my house northish to the Rancho Carmel area, to a crappy strip mall. Posing quotient, low. This is one of those strip malls that just seems to be even more car heavy. This Coffee Bean has a pretty wide outside area though, so that's nice. There was a guy there that saw me and said to himself, "I want to go bike riding." He looked at my bike for a bit then left with his young son. Posing is no good on a Sunday afternoon at this location.

Went out solo riding the SDBC C++ route. By the time I reached Dan's favorite posing spot (Pannikin Cafe), I was feeling very hungry. Nevertheless, I decided to push my way through and ended up in SDBC's usual rest stop at Java Depot. Lucky since 2 miles before that even my arms are weak due to lack of energy. I'm not sure whether chucking down a meal like a guy that hasn't eaten for a week is considered posing, but the photo doesn't show that.

CHANGO is located just a quarter mile from my house and I've never been to this joint. They opened just a couple of years ago. They took over what used to be an old Spanish meat market. I pass by this place every single day. This place definitely looks poser friendly.
I only see white folks here and this is in the middle of Echo Park where cafes, art galleries, hipsters, and vintage shops are springing up everywhere around here. I would like to pose here one of these days and introduce myself as a long-time resident, cyclist, poser, and welcome them to Mi Barrio.

Description:
I rode west from my house intending to go down into La Jolla proper, but I decided I did not want to risk getting caught out without lights on the return trip, so I cut my trip short in the University City area. I was going to go to Starbucks then pose somewhere near UC Cyclery, but then I realized Starbucks coffee isn't very good, so I went to Peet's instead. I got a few "Nice bike!"s and one "How much does it weigh?" Posing success! I also realize my cleats were too far forward, so I sat there and fixed it. I also ran into a guy I used to play basketball with over a year ago (!).
I'm starting to realize that posing location that are about 12 miles or less from my house are somewhat weak. I need to get more ambitious.

Description:
In a panic, I realized I needed to pose for this month. I had my fixed gear, a cycling cap (it's just like a helmet), and a messenger bag with a book in it. Fixie pose time. I rode west after work from Mission Valley to Fiesta Island. Came across a young lady on a Bridgestone XO-2 with a mustache handlebar a stoplight. I had to drope the hammer and leave her behind (I can't let mustache bars beat me!). Did the small loop around the "island" and returned to the Cyclo-Vets turf. Sat down and read the book that was in the messenger bag. There was a fair amount of people in the outdoor patio area when I arrived, including a couple meeting with wedding photographers.
I like sitting out on a patio in the evenings.
