Good idea, but M.E.'s concept of posing is too restrictive.

Specifically, the 10 mile rule excludes the most audacious form of posing, namely "Extreme Posing" in which the poseur drives to the posing location in full kit with their bike on the rack, and optionally rides through the parking lot to their posing destination, or parks immediately adjacent to said location so that their bike is displayed prominently.

I also question the requirement for a photo of each pose. Not that photos aren't entertaining, but not all otherwise worthy poseurs carry a camera with them everytime they ride. Some of my best poses have been spontaneous and would be excluded under this rule. I proposed that full description of the pose should be sufficient for PAM credit.

As for the future "Pose-off", I can see the need for photos at that point because the competition will be cutthroat for sure.

Only in So Cal can people get away with this. I'm just surprised a minimum price limit on the bike isn't a requirement.

I disagree. I'm in NorCal, and my old club does this all the time! I mean the entire club poses at every ride. 1.5 hour lunch stop???

I'll add you to the list.

Oh, and Dan's just jealous since I didn't sign up for CAM.

Look it, Dannyboy, I'll do CAM if you do PAM, and my theory is that those who are Posers are a tiny bit more legit than all out Poseurs, who really don't cycle as such. That is not what this is about. This is only for the elite, who can both ride and pose - thus the art to this sport. And since it's an art - of course a photo is required.

So, stop whining, Dan, and just go try it. :)

Yes, unlike CAM, exceptions on a case-by-case basis will be accepted.

For you John: You may ride your trainer for a minimum of 1/2 hour (= 10 miles) and then pose however you wish (unless you ride your trainer like Jschen, in which case I'd recommend changing attire first). :)

Look, I said I liked the idea. Just trying to make constructive suggestions.

So I'm in, but all you will get are funky cameraphone shots because I do not own a camera small enough to carry around for regular riding.

And I'm adding you to the CAM list right now.:D

Point of clarification on the rules:

1 - You must pose at least once a month on a ride of 10 miles or greater. Any posing on a ride under 10 miles is just considered flat-out lounging, and that's cheating! You MUST have ridden 10 miles on any given ride before you can stop, pose and then call it an actual pose.

So did you mean that the total ride has to be at least 10 miles, or that you have to ride ten miles before you can stop and pose , which would typically mean a ride of much more than ten miles.

Sorry, here is what I meant and I'll update the OP:

1. You must ride at least 10 miles to call it a ride on which you've posed. Anything less than 10 miles is lounging, IMO. I'm the rule maker, so them there the rules. :p
2. You may stop and pose whenever and as many times as you want once the ride has started. No, having coffee at Starbucks pre-ride does not count as posing (for this challenge, anyway - it may very well be posing otherwise! ;))
3. You must pose for a minimum of 30 minutes for it to be considered a pose (honor system on this one). A Potty break for 10 minutes with a cup of coffee in hand is NOT a pose for the PAM Challenge. I want only serious posers to take the challenge. You amateur Poser-Wannabes can go make your own rules on your own challenge!

An example of how the PAM Challenge works:

Roadfix gets into his riding gear and takes off for the Griffith Park Observatory. After a mile of riding, he stops at a local coffee shop, poses for 30 minutes, takes pic. Roadfix than continues to top of Observatory, stops, orders beverage, poses for 30 minutes, takes pic. Roadfix than does loop (to ensure his total ride is at least 10 miles) and stops for two minutes, uses the porta-potty and does NOT take pic (this stop would not be considered a pose and will not be counted in the PAM Challenge). Roadfix then returns home and posts his favorite "contender" Pose shot in the PAM Challenge Thread.

Got it? :)

Yippee! I'll add you to the PAM Challenge taker list. :D

Also, like the CAM Challenge, I'm letting one month slide. If you cannot due to the challenge in January due to injury or otherwise, you may make up this one month's pose by posing twice in a month sometime during the year.

Now if was in the porta potty for 30 minutes that would count as a pose.
It would also mean he needs more fiber in his diet....

Well, I suppose if you pose for 30 minutes while in a porta potty enjoying a hot beverage that you purchased or other rider purchased for you, that photo would be allowed. There is no rule that you can't pose in a porta-potty. Now, that wouldn't be fair. :D

See, and this is where an amatuer may become confused, so I can understand your misunderstanding, Dan. ;):p This challenge isn't about outright LOUNGING. Being injured, I can lounge on my fat arse all day long and snap photos...in fact, did just that yesterday sans the photos as my new camera was charging. The challenge is in the riding at least 10 miles for the posing (no matter how many times - you can pose all day and make a 10 mile ride 10 hours long for all I care) to be of any signifigance and to be considered POSING.

We are all athletes afterall, and ones who like to ride our bicycles, and it takes tremendous discipline and will power to pose properly - which involves stopping and smelling the roses...er...coffee roasting along the way.

Roadfix's talents have been greatly under-valued for a good long time and I suspect those of you who take this challenge will see just how complex this can be. I hope to celebrate the art/sport of Posing with this very challenge. :)

As the artist, you must make this decision for yourself. The challenge in your case will be in how to provide poses that don't look the same. ;)

You know with all this talk of the PAM challenge, I have to give kudos to Frank, Dan, Joy and Mark. So far, they have illustrated perfectly what I mean by posing (not to be confused with bling-bling posuer stuff).

I also hope that everyone knows this is in the spirit of fun and silliness. ;) I really do plan to have a Pose-Off at the end of the year, a Poser-Party and an award for the best Poser. :p

EDIT: Oh, and Dave - to your entry with Jschen in the shot. Very good!

I am shocked :eek:and offended  at being labled an "amateur" poser. I was an accomplished poser years before you ever laid hands on a road bike. As I mentioned previously "Extreme Posing" is a perfectly valid form of posing that requires little or any riding. It is not "lounging" on one's arse, fat or otherwise in that it requires planning and effort to go to a well chosen posing location in full kit and requires all the attitude and panache of more conventional posing. The fact that you have excluded this form of posing in your frankly arbitrary rules is what creates obstacles for the SoCal BF Gimp Squad. Indeed I think it would be a great idea to arrange for a special drive-to "Gimp Pose" session.

That's hilarious! The looks of sincerity are spot on! I'll have to think about the commitment. I do have a problem with drinking caffeine, so I'm afraid I'd be regarded as too "different" being seen with orange juice. I don't want to create any discordant waves.

Beverage choice is very personal. You don't have to explain yourself.
