Hey everyone, i am new the forums but i didn't see a thread on this anywhere.
I'm just starting to make my own energy snacks to take on rides, easily eatable, small, and super efficent for giving you that boost. Post what you got !
* Straight up potatoes: boiled, skinned, with a little bit of salt on em, wrapped in foil
* Burrito type thing: Choice of beans,super diced chicken,tomato,and rice, in a tiny tortilla, in foil.

Mix straight maltodextrin from a homebrew supply house with flavored soy or whey protein in a 1:7 ratio by weight. Put 2 c. of this mix in a water bottle, add as much water as fits, and shake. Equals exactly enough food for a 3 hour ride. That's all you need, foodwise. Take another bottle with plain water, too.

Every. single. ride.
I make something that is similar to homemade cliff bars. Recipe is pretty much like this
Quaker traditional rolled oats. Put them in a blender so they turn to a finer powder then put them in a large bowl.
Mix in some milk to make them a thick paste.
Add whatever you would like for taste. Honey, raisins, blueberries, brown sugar, cinnamon, peanuts ect.. I always use honey as it keeps them together better.
spoon out a glob on a hot oiled pan and cook like a pancake.
you can bake them too if you want although i like when they are soft on the inside and harder on the outside.
They taste really good and have everything you need for energy.

Cookies with steel cut oats, walnuts, cranberries (dried), chocolate chips, and made with whole wheat flour and ground flax. Tasty and very moist without the grease. I think my wife just adapts a standard recipe (I only bake bread).

Ah yes, homemade cookies with little bits of fruit in them for the win.
I try to stay away from things that are too protein heavy. Also, i die if i don't eat anything, no protein/carb drink will do it for me.
Of course, too much food is just overkill.
i usually aim for low fat, high carb, low protein.

If I want a break from Cliff Bars and gels I just bring a boiled potato or two with me. I don't really have time to cook my own energy bars. Besides I like Cliff Bars. :)

As far as potatoes are concerned, are those of you that bring one or two along with you using smaller new potatoes or a standard russets? A couple of small new potatoes seems like the best option to me, small and like a two bite snack.

Yeah I use smaller ones. You can just boil them in the skin.

They don't have hydrogenated oil, do they?
I make a smoothie with ice cubes. I like the soy chocolate "silk" stuff with a banana thrown in.
I wanna learn to make Cliff bars. Are those Flax seeds in there?

1. Partially hydrogenated cotton seed oil and high fructose corn syrup.
2. Not sure, buy one and read the ingredients? ;)

I like tofu, but I don't think it has any business in cookies. Yes, I'm stodgy and closed minded. :p

Only if you buy the crappy Nabisco ones (which are nasty, anyway, compared to most other brands). By the way, the fat free ones leave out the hydrogenated oil.
Whole Foods 365 brand are the best I've found, so far. And they happen to be organic, for those who care about such things.
