Good luck with your project!
Just make sure you have a good budget and select the right person/company as it could get more expensive to fix it just because you tried to save a few bucks.

You dont need just a good website, you also need a great admin tools to manage the web and your products.

If you do not have the budget just use something like Yahoo store http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/ecommerce/.

Certainly cost is important but I'm reluctant to shop around for 'cheapest' pricing as this project relates to our core business. My gut tells me someone on this forum might be in Socal and have the right credentials to assist with our website launch. Again, I am willing to pay a premium for the individual(s) with first-hand experience, references and a passion for cycling.

For those who have jumped on the e-commerce bandwagon I'd love to hear your stories. We're certainly late to the game but our goal is to partner with the right individual and do it correctly from the get-go.

Can't help you on a specific reference but whatever you do don't let any web developer put sounds or animations on your site. People really hate it and will often flee your site because of it. Small time web developers continue to do it because it seems flashy and impressive to their clients, but it is a really bad idea.

Very good information to know, thanks for your sharing. We intend to keep our landing page and templates very easy on the eyes without sacrificing a profressional look and feel.

I'm curious how folks on this forum like to shop on cycling related e-commerce sites?

While our goal is to attract a wide audience, our intention is to simplify the user experience by keeping content controlled. We don't plan on having a blog; hopefully our pricing and inventory alone will attract new and repeat customers.

+1. What's even more annoying are pop ups, and of course, you know that many web browsers now come with pop up blockers. If they put too much extracurricular activity (like animations and sounds), some folks with older OS's and web browsers may not be able to view your site. Follow the KISS rule ... keep it simple stupid.
