Northern California - Mt. Veeder/Trinity Mtn ride report

Epic day with perfect weather yestrerday! Leaving from my home in Carneros (Sonoma side) the wind was nill and the temp was about 55. Out through the Napa foothills to Mt Veeder. Up and over then Dry Creek rd to Trinity. I suck at climbing so this is a laborous route for me (although I can get up anything if need be). Down Trinity to Glen Ellen and then back to Sonoma and home.
A nice 45 mile route with plenty of climbing.

Nice ride. I've done Trinity to Dry Creek, but never Dry Creek to Trinity. How much harder is it going in that direction? When I was descending Dry Creek, I remember thinking I wouldn't want to be riding up it. It seemed pretty steep...

Back in the late 80's I remember leading a club ride, I think from Sonoma 12 over Cavedale, down dry creek a loop around Napa Valley, up Oakville grade and back Cavedale. May someday a BF ride?

Would love to lead a BF ride up this way some time. Dry Creek is the lower section of Trinity coming up from the Napa side. I would have to say that it is not quite as hard as the Sonoma side up (pretty close though). Now going up the Oakvilee grade is a real challenge, very steep, not long though.
There are plenty of greate rides up this way. Come spring time let's set up a ride and we can end with a BBQ at my place.

Mt. Veeder Road and Dry Creek Road are two different roads that lead to Trinity Road (Oakville Rd/Oakville grade if you head to Napa) on the Napa Side. Mt Veeder is definitely steeper and you climb 500 ft vertical in the last 8/10's of a mile if you are heading to Trinity from Napa. Dry Creek Road is on the lower slope of the range and is just basically a few steep rollers. Trinity is tough in both directions - the difference being that on the Napa side the road is (was) in much better shape and is much wider in sections. If you decend down into Sonoma it's a tricky descent.

I used to do a ride where I started in Suisun City/Fairfield, go over Mt. George, Mt. Veeder, Trinity and finish in Sonoma.

I think I hit some of these roads on the Tour of Napa Valley century - beautiful ride! Do this on a Sunday, and I'll be there!
