- saw this little guy (Gasteracantha cancriformis) outside my window this afternoon:

Oh, we saw those in Bermuda (or a close cousin). They are WAY cool.

Are those things only in the SouthEast? I remember seeing them all over around Gainesville when I was growing up there. But more commonly we had banana spiders. They are scary looking but I dated a girl that would catch them in her bare hands and hold them.

They aren't poisonous. Nothing happened other than all of us getting freaked out.

banana spider? If your in the US, they wont hurt you. If you are in S. America, well, kiss it all goodbye if you get bit by what is commonly referred to as a banana spider down there.

The design on its back looks like a Rorshach test! That's pretty cool.
