I am hereby hijacking my own thread and making it into a ride report.

Yesterday my boss and friend took me on a ride in the San Gabriel mountains. We met up at work at 9am-the retail guys were setting up for a tent sale and I stood around sipping a 7 eleven cappuccino and chatting with the manager.

The reason for meeting at work was that we would be using some cameras recently acquired by the company as testers to film our ride. My boss who will remain nameless to protect the innocent was a bit late and the marketing guy who keeps the cameras was busy selling a GF Cobia to a nice looking couple. It took a few minutes for him to explain the camera functions to us and we were off.

Pulling into the lot at the base of the hill I was afraid we would not be able to park, but providence shined on us and there were exactly 2 spots. The weather was great; low 70s and very little wind. A sunshiney day in the San Gabriel valley. We mounted up and climbed 4 miles of hard packed fire road to the top, chatting and enjoying the views.

There were a lot of other riders out, and we were frequently passed by people going up and coming down. About the people coming down, my boss said "what a waste of a good climb-coming down the fire road." I would soon know what he meant.

At the top we stopped to eat and strap on the cameras for the descent. He would use the seatpost mount and I the helmet as he would be leading. There was a brief crisis as neither of us remembered how to use the cameras. We fiddled, tinkered and pushed buttons. A hiker asked about them and my boss explained-sounding a bit like a salesman.

The descent was...well, one word just would not work. El Prieto is the name of the trail and I will be back for sure. Under an airy evergreen canopy we swooped, dropped, stomped up rocky climbs and bounced down technical chutes. We crossed and re-crossed the creek, slowed for hikers, dabbed a foot out for hairpin switchbacks. At the bottom we staged a shot of my boss dropping a nice 4 foot gap.

I headed home with a big smile. Like I said, I will be back for sure.
