...
Ok, first off, Mary is OK....
Her doctor said she dodged a bullet. It could have been a lot worse.
I know her strength and positive outlook will quicken her recovery.
....
Thank you for that update, and I was relieved that she will be ok. Looking forward to that first post by ME.

It sounds like you're going to be ok, ME. Because of your injuries I understand if you wait to post pics until tomorrow. Seriously though, I'm glad to hear you are ok.

I am not sure I will make it either....just got back myself...
Hope you're back on your bike soon, Mary. Thank God you had a helmet on. My best wishes for a speedy recovery.

This is not a good trend. First John Conrad and now M.E!
Yes, please, everyone be careful on your bikes (not that jpcontrad and ME weren't careful), keep the rubber side down, and stay out of the E.R!
And heal quickly, the season is just starting . . .

Prayers for a rapid and full recovery.

Oh, stop, people, stop! Everytime I laugh a searing pain goes through my neck. For the love of pain killers, stop! :p
Geez...I can't decide which is my favorite one liner, but Chuckles wins - and I expect butt shots from every one of you.
Seriously, I’m touched (FOO folks, I’m headed over there next to give you guys love. Thank you for popping in and wishing me well :o)
You So Calers know I just looooooooovvvve all of you. So, thanks for the…um…appreciation by proxy thread. See, I’ll do anything to get appreciated. :D
But seriously, here is my ride, I mean, accident report highlights:
1. Started day with great group of guys and my favorite Panda. Herb, Mark, Gene, their friends Andy and Tom (very nice to meet you both!), Bill, Jim, Joy and I took off on a nice little 70 miler out of Ventura. Morning was cold but everything just fine up until I hit asphalt.
2. I do not remember hitting the ground, just the sudden image of my hands dropping into my drops without my meaning them to as my bike wheel went to the left suddenly. Then I remember seeing the ground eye level and not being able to breathe. I immediately tried to sit up but had to lie back down. Jim had already reached me and was talking to me, but I don’t remember what he was saying. I tried saying, “I’m alright,” but I didn’t feel right. I was dizzy and although I started breathing normal again, I could feel pain in my arm, neck and shoulder. I also started shaking all over. Then, even though I begged the men to not tell on me, I’ll admit that I started crying. I think it was the shock of realizing that I had crashed and the fact that I felt like throwing up. But I don’t remember at all hitting the pavement!
3. After much discussion, Herb, Mark, Gene and their friends continued on (I encouraged them to, of course) and Joy stayed with me while Jim and Bill took off to get Bill’s truck and drive back to take me to the ER.
4. A very sweet couple out riding, Debbie and Ray, stopped and were incredibly sweet to me – even offering to take me to the hospital themselves and for me to stay at their home if need be. I hope they log on here as they were truly the nicest people.
5. A fireman stopped and checked me out (while I checked him out) and a couple nice folks pulled over as well. Two paramedics were called (I did not accept the ambulance ride) and they checked me out as well. I knew I was okay when I cracked an immediate joke with one of them. He told me he needed to gather some info on me and I chimed in with, “I’m single.” If I can flirt, I’m not that badly injured!
6. Jim and Bill got there and we all headed to Ojai hospital. It took awhile for them to see me, but when they did, they were wonderful. It was determined fairly quickly that I had not broken anything (phew!), but a possibility of a shoulder separation or ligament separation was the concern. Luckily, and I do mean that, all I have is a pulled ligament (from what the ER can tell), some nasty bruising, especially on my forearm and possible brain bruising – which is now my excuse for every blonde moment I have! The doctor did, in fact, say to me that I had dodged a bullet and that my helmet (now cracked with a pebble embedded in it) saved me from serious injury and most likely, death. She said that, I’m not embellishing. So, I hope any one on here who ever, for any reason, rides sans helmet, that you will please, please think twice. I would NOT be writing this had I not had a helmet on.
7. My camera is toast as it was tucked in my right sleeve (where I always keep it when not snapping photos) and it is shattered. Joy has all the pics, including injuries and such.
8. I owe Jim, Bill and Joy infinite gratitude for sticking by my side today, cracking jokes, playing along and my spirits remained high because of them, their company and support. I  you guys.
So, that’s it in a nutshell. I did ask the Dr. if she thought I would be out riding in a few days and she just looked at me like a pathetic puppy and said, not likely. I’m hoping next weekend, but I’ve never had this kind of injury, so I just don’t know. I do have a very high pain threshold, but I can tell you, I’m hurting like hell at present. I discovered when taking my clothes off to shower tonight just how far I can move my shoulder and right arm before the pain is excruciating! Damnit! But all things considered, I cannot and am not complaining. I’ll be back on my bike just as soon as I can tolerate moving my shoulder forward and can’t wait to ride.
Thanks again, BF peeps, for your concern and kind words!:o
ME, sorry to hear about your accident, ouch:(. Please get well soon, we’ll miss you on the road.

I forgot to mention that I owe several people calls/text messages. I will thank each of you individually when I'm more up to the task (even typing is hurting, holding a phone up to my ear when I can only use my left hand is tiresome!), but I wanted you to know I got them. :)
Oh, and one last thing, getting a Cat Scan is bizzare! :p

Thanks, Tony. I'm not ruling out SGRT yet, but I have this feeling...:( Also, Thunderdome will likely be rescheduled too.
Sigh.

It is, isn't it? Both times they gave me one last week they told be it would be 5 minutes and I swear it was only 30 seconds.
Glad you're ok, I hope you did get a prescription for painkillers, though.

Mary take it easy, don’t push it. Oh tomorrow will you be hurting (sorry to say that). Take time off your bike to heal properly. Aren’t helmets great, I’ve destroyed 2 of them in crashes. I’m glad to see, at this time, you still have your sense of humor. Anyway take care of yourself and maybe I’ll see you Feb. 2.

Two weeks?!!!!!!

No one else can really tell how long it will take. It just depends on the rate of healing, low long it takes for swelling to do down and how your injuries feel while on the bike. I went down and injured my shoulder several years ago (though probably not as badly as yours). I found that I could ride long before all the general injury healed because the pain was not triggered much by being in riding position.
So tell us how your ride goes tomorrow. :D

Glad you're ok, I hope you did get a prescription for painkillers, though.
I did (Jim kept suggesting it as I was going to forgo it. The Dr. said to take three Motrins every six hours for the next week or so, but offered a prescription of Tylenol with Coedine as well). I haven't filled the prescription and now I'm just too tired and "ditzy" to go get it. I'm kind of wishing I had. My shoulder really hurts, but I'll survive. I do have a high threshold and generally can just push through it. I suspect the next day or two is going to be the worst of it! I already hurt in areas I didn't even notice today. My right thigh and hip really hurt and my butt even hurts!
Whine, whine, whine...and, yes, damnit, I'd like some cheese to go with it...if I wasn't on Weight Watchers! :p

The two days following my accident were probably the most painful, and I hurt everywhere, even where I wasn't injured. Make sure and fill the prescription.
I'm still having "ditzy" issues, as well. :o I'm going to try and get on my trainer, though, on Monday and hope that my shoulder doesn't cause me too many problems. Do you have a trainer?
