The two days following my accident were probably the most painful, and I hurt everywhere, even where I wasn't injured. Make sure and fill the prescription.

I'm still having "ditzy" issues, as well. :o I'm going to try and get on my trainer, though, on Monday and hope that my shoulder doesn't cause me too many problems. Do you have a trainer?

Yeah, I suspect by tomorrow I'll be hitting the TwC! No, I do not have a trainer, but I may be investing in one. I'm going to the gym tomorrow and getting on the recumbant bike if I feel up to it.

 My doctor said no such thing. Although I was trying to be your "sympathy crasher" - mine wasn't as momentous as yours! :p

You hurt the wrong side, though. :D

Isn't Joy her... -- well actually trainer probably isn't the right word after all.

Wow, ME, I am sooooo glad to see that it wasn't too serious. Good thing you are cracking jokes. I was having such a good day today, and then I read this thread ... :( I'm just glad to see you are okay.

I know you want to get back on the bike tomorrow, but give it a little rest at least. Are they prescribing PT? I think the fact that you are so physically fit (and a fine specimen, I might add), I think you'll heal a lot quicker than someone who lounges on the couch on the weekend. With all that said, get well soon, and hopefully you'll be out there for the Santa Barbara ride.

PS On a scale of 1-10, how were the paramedics?

Best wishes for a speedy recovery - we were so worried about you. I'm glad I got to see you in the parking lot - you didn't look so great, but just making that connection was a good thing. Count your blessings. I'm sure we'll see you riding again soon.

You are too kind, Ron! I'm not a fine speciman at present. I'm all swollen...my shoulder is really starting to swell. But I will ease back into it and the Dr. gave me some exercises to do if not too painful. Tonight, it's too painful, but tomorrow, pain or no pain, I'll be doing them, plus, I plan to hit the gym and ride the recumbant and maybe go hiking or something. I have to exercise for sure!

Um...on a scale of 1-10, two of them were all out 10s...but one was too young for me and the other married. That is what you mean, right? :p

Glad to see you up and about and working the kinks out --- and looking (most likely) at some pretty bruises coming about!

My last mtb accident had me in ER and undergoing all sorts of chest x-rays (puncutured lung) - but I must say each and every one of those expensive docs and nurses who walked thru my area when I was in ER (and not up in another room) - they were more aghast at my cuts (meh), bruises (meh, meh) and the fact that I wasn't a 20 yr old man or something (meh, meh, meh) --- You're how old? AND you do this????

:p yes ma'ams and sirs!

Get better soon gurlie!!!!

No and I hit on all of them (except the married one). Seems injured, stinky, zinc paste crusted (it had dried to a crusty white face peel at that point) and bad breathed isn't the draw these days. :p

So, that’s it in a nutshell. I did ask the Dr. if she thought I would be out riding in a few days and she just looked at me like a pathetic puppy and said, not likely. I’m hoping next weekend, but I’ve never had this kind of injury, so I just don’t know. I do have a very high pain threshold, but I can tell you, I’m hurting like hell at present. I discovered when taking my clothes off to shower tonight just how far I can move my shoulder and right arm before the pain is excruciating! Damnit! But all things considered, I cannot and am not complaining. I’ll be back on my bike just as soon as I can tolerate moving my shoulder forward and can’t wait to ride.

Thanks again, BF peeps, for your concern and kind words!:o

Oh my gosh, ME! I'm so sorry to hear about your crash. Hey, make sure the docs give you some good drugs for the pain ;) Heal quickly ... we'll miss you on the mtb ride tomorrow! Hope to see you out there soon!

No, but they and the firemen were wonderful. I've decided that I want a fireman. They are the sexiest men in the world. The one I met today (I met two, one was there first and then another arrived on the scene after him) was wonderful and really checked me out (appropriately). Something to be said for sure about you brave boys in them big red trucks. ;)

ME, I'm glad it doesn't appear to be horribly serious! I remember that feeling well, by the way, but mine was a low speed crash on a mountain bike trail.

Get well, and take it easy a day or two at least Enjoy the painkillers, young lady. :D

:roflmao: :roflmao:  :roflmao:

Oh, stop, people, stop! Everytime I laugh a searing pain goes through my neck. For the love of pain killers, stop! :p

Geez...I can't decide which is my favorite one liner, but Chuckles wins - and I expect butt shots from every one of you.

Seriously, I’m touched (FOO folks, I’m headed over there next to give you guys love. Thank you for popping in and wishing me well :o)

You So Calers know I just looooooooovvvve all of you. So, thanks for the…um…appreciation by proxy thread. See, I’ll do anything to get appreciated. :D

But seriously, here is my ride, I mean, accident report highlights:

1. Started day with great group of guys and my favorite Panda. Herb, Mark, Gene, their friends Andy and Tom (very nice to meet you both!), Bill, Jim, Joy and I took off on a nice little 70 miler out of Ventura. Morning was cold but everything just fine up until I hit asphalt.
2. I do not remember hitting the ground, just the sudden image of my hands dropping into my drops without my meaning them to as my bike wheel went to the left suddenly. Then I remember seeing the ground eye level and not being able to breathe. I immediately tried to sit up but had to lie back down. Jim had already reached me and was talking to me, but I don’t remember what he was saying. I tried saying, “I’m alright,” but I didn’t feel right. I was dizzy and although I started breathing normal again, I could feel pain in my arm, neck and shoulder. I also started shaking all over. Then, even though I begged the men to not tell on me, I’ll admit that I started crying. I think it was the shock of realizing that I had crashed and the fact that I felt like throwing up. But I don’t remember at all hitting the pavement!
3. After much discussion, Herb, Mark, Gene and their friends continued on (I encouraged them to, of course) and Joy stayed with me while Jim and Bill took off to get Bill’s truck and drive back to take me to the ER.
4. A very sweet couple out riding, Debbie and Ray, stopped and were incredibly sweet to me – even offering to take me to the hospital themselves and for me to stay at their home if need be. I hope they log on here as they were truly the nicest people.
5. A fireman stopped and checked me out (while I checked him out) and a couple nice folks pulled over as well. Two paramedics were called (I did not accept the ambulance ride) and they checked me out as well. I knew I was okay when I cracked an immediate joke with one of them. He told me he needed to gather some info on me and I chimed in with, “I’m single.” If I can flirt, I’m not that badly injured!
6. Jim and Bill got there and we all headed to Ojai hospital. It took awhile for them to see me, but when they did, they were wonderful. It was determined fairly quickly that I had not broken anything (phew!), but a possibility of a shoulder separation or ligament separation was the concern. Luckily, and I do mean that, all I have is a pulled ligament (from what the ER can tell), some nasty bruising, especially on my forearm and possible brain bruising – which is now my excuse for every blonde moment I have! The doctor did, in fact, say to me that I had dodged a bullet and that my helmet (now cracked with a pebble embedded in it) saved me from serious injury and most likely, death. She said that, I’m not embellishing. So, I hope any one on here who ever, for any reason, rides sans helmet, that you will please, please think twice. I would NOT be writing this had I not had a helmet on.
7. My camera is toast as it was tucked in my right sleeve (where I always keep it when not snapping photos) and it is shattered. Joy has all the pics, including injuries and such.
8. I owe Jim, Bill and Joy infinite gratitude for sticking by my side today, cracking jokes, playing along and my spirits remained high because of them, their company and support. I  you guys.

I was in the back of the pack (as usual), and saw ME go down...I hate seeing a cyclist go down...
I think she hit a rock on the path, there was a lot of debris from the last rain.
I saw her wheel go left and ME went right...and down hard...I knew it was not good..
Luckily we had thompson who took charge and made sure she was ok...
We tried to make sure nothing was broken as best we could...when we finally sat her up, she said her shoulder hurt really bad... We knew at this point she need some medical attention.
Bill and Jim said they would go get the truck and pick her up...

Let me tell you all....this is one tough lady....while she was concerned about herself, she was most concerned about "ruining the ride"...
We checked her bike out and that seems fine except for the brifter on the right side...but we think it was more superficial than anything....
So we decided (reluctantly on my part) that we would continue the ride while Joy stayed with ME and Bill and Jim went for the truck....
We did the ride, but I was concerned about ME all day and I would call Joy for an update at every stop we made..
Thanks to Jim, Bill and Joy for taking care of ME! You guys rock!
And ME...you just need to take it easy and get better...you will be back riding very soon, I know it!

Glad to hear your spirits are still up, M.E. :)

I can't reiterate enough about the helmet stuff. Having my friend go down on the pavement right in front of me and seeing her head saved by that helmet makes me so happy that she (and almost all BFers) have the good sense to wear one.

Despite the pain and trauma she went through (her body was having some unsettling reactions that caused us some worry) the gal kept laughing and joking and staying as positive as anyone could under the circumstances.

Herb, you were right to take the others for the rest of the ride. There were people farther down the line expecting you and there was nothing a group of cyclists could do once we got her to the hospital. I tried to keep Vance and Jim updated with her condition, and ME and I even sent silly PMs to let you know that her sense of humor was still intact. ;)

I've got pictures to upload but I just got back from the ADT center (Thomson and I went straight to the World Cup once we got Mary home safely). I'm tired, so will post them tomorrow...

And yeah, Scoot. I saw the ME's zinc-paste face imprint on the ground, too. Didn't even register what it was until after we realized she was going to be OK.

Hi,

OMG, I spend a day away from the computer and all heck breaks loose. ME, I am so sorry to hear about your crash and I am so glad to hear that your injuries are not worse. Please take care of yourself. Your body will definitely need some rest before you get back on the bike.

Don't know if you remember when I was in that head-on 1-1/2 years ago, but I was off the bike about 7 weeks. I'll tell you though, when I got back on everything was fine and it took me less time than I thought to get back up to speed.

Heal quickly and completely. :)

I'm going to have to start an MEwhiner thread pronto. :o

You know how I said I have a high threshold for pain? Seems like not so much right now. OMG, everything on my body hurts...my shoulder (duh), arm (another duh), both legs, quads, butt, right knee, right ankle, right side from my armpit to my thigh, fingers on both hands, LEFT arm (??? WTH?), neck, head... EVERYTHING! EVEN MY FRICKIN' RIGHT EARLOBE!

And to the two people (you know who you are) who told me it was a good idea to sleep through the night and not set my alarm clock to get up at 10:30pm to take pain pills - um, WRONG!!!!! It seems that one needs pain pills to sleep. Oh, and yes, I did, in fact, as predicted, roll over on my shoulder twice during the night. I had ringing in my ears (no joke) from the pain that ensued.

Oi vey...I'm going to have to have a talk with the cycling gods...you know, do a little dance or something...to ensure this never happens again. Well, as soon as I can dance. :p

Thanks, HLMLT, my spirits are up due to the humor and support you and the boys provided yesterday. And +1 on the above. I hated that you, Jim and Bill had to just sit and wait around the hospital. Such a waste of time for you all. I would not have wanted anyone else to have to sit there all day. Herb and the gang absolutely should have continued. Too bad this happened as I was looking forward to the day and lots of great photos on a good ride. Oh, well...stuff happens.

I know what you are going through. When I went down, the pain didn't really creep in until the day after. Vicatin really helped me out.
