Vicodin is odd stuff. When I was in the hospital in Oct. of 2006 (brain surgery), they'd give me the stuff and it made the mild pain go away, but no dramatic effects, and I could easily do without it. I've known others to be knocked on their asses by vicodin. I still have a bunch of it that I never bothered using when I came home.

Hmm.

Same for me, the pain goes away but not much narcotic effect. My wife gets put to sleep by them, though.

I can't take vicodin. Makes me sick as a dog and I can't breathe. Turns out this here Darvocet makes me cranky. Poor Bob. I had dinner with him and was snippy. Sorry, Bob. :o

When I was taking Vicodin and a few brewskis for my broken collarbone years ago, I thought I'd found the answer to any kind of pain. But you hear enough stories like Heath Ledger, etc. and you realize maybe that wasn't too smart!

The big league of pain management is available only in the hospital: Demerol. After I had a shot of that, I swear I could've gotten on the bike and ridden back home...naked

Demerol is available via prescription, but they don't give it out too much anymore. Could they have given you a shot of Dilaudid?

You guys sure know a lot about painkillers. Are people falling on purpose?

Dilaudid is the mother of all painkillers - 8x more powerful than morphine

I got it via IV when I broke my ribs. It's fast acting and it made the pain go away. I don't think it's used much or at all on an outpatient basis but I could be wrong.

Don't get any bright ideas, Mark. It's not worth it. :p

Did you have one of those buttons (patient controlled analgesia)? That is often the use of super-potent opioids.

There are opioids that 10,000 times the potency of morphine. Apparently used to sedate large animals.

I now think Prendrefeu was on to something when he suggested that this thread be stickied. I'm in full agreement. We can keep it so that folks have a place to go when trying to consider what prescription drugs they can hope to score. :p

This was about 7 years ago, and the doc called it demerol. All I know is that I felt as if I could polka for the rest of the night. My wife had a dose of dilaudid about 2 monthes ago during a trip to the ER. She went from intense pain to happy camper in about 35 seconds. They claim that it's less addictive than morphine. Yeah, right!

Only in suppository form. That would make it the opposite of a PITA. ;)

You oughta give it a try, ME.
