I just got off the phone with Joy (Happytime). On the ride they were doing out in the vicinity of Ojai she crashed for an unknown reason (they saw her tire go out from under her, but the road was in good shape, not sure what happened).

She was knocked out for a short time, hurt her right shoulder and hip, cracked her helmet. She's up and about now, cracking jokes, but is a bit dizzy. Jim and Bill have gone back to get the car and should be picking them up any time now.

If/when I hear more I'll keep you posted.

We had discussed before that 2007 was not a good year for accidents/crashes. We have to snap this trend, asap! Hope you both heal quickly, and back pedaling soon. Helmets rule.

Last text was 10 min ago and she was just getting in to see the doctor. By all accounts, she is in good spirits, so that's a good sign.

Looks like her heads ok, they're x-raying her arm and shoulder as a precaution. She doesn't have a separated shoulder, but something to do with a ligament it sounds like?

Recent rains had washed dirt onto the pavement (b lane) from the shoulder, creating sandtraps. I had that last week, but was able to plow through it. I wonder if she had something like this??

Geeesssshhhh What is going on here?? Too many accidents lately.

Ok, first off, Mary is OK. She is a very strong woman with a high threshold of pain.

Going north on the Ojai bike path, she hit a rock and immediately went down. She hit on her right shoulder, right forearm, right side of her head, and right brifter. First off, the brifter is OK, a little scratched but operates OK.

Ok, seriously, she has a bump on her forearm that is huge, it looks the size of an egg and the bruise coloring is already starting.

Her shoulder has no breakage, dislocation, or separation. It looks like the ligaments were pulled. This is the area that hurts her the most.

The head has some bruising but no real issues. Her helmet is bashed pretty good. Without her helmet, I would not be able to write such an upbeat story.

Small cuts on her fingers but no road rash. She bounced off the asphalt, did not slide.

Her doctor said she dodged a bullet. It could have been a lot worse.

I know her strength and positive outlook will quicken her recovery.

Joy, Bill, and I had a pretty good time at the hospital considering. Mary kept us entertained.
