Hi all,

I'm going to build a front wheel using an American Classic Micro and a Sun M17A 28h tubular rim radially laced with DT Revolution 1.8-1.5-1.8mm (15/17/15 gauge) spokes.

Spokecalc gave me 292mm spokes but I'm afraid that they are so thin they'll stretch and I'll run out of thread.:eek::eek::eek:

Should I get 290's?

My understanding is that spokes don't actually stretch (just tension), but did it give you 292 or was there a decimal?

Spokes follow the various laws of physics just like anything else. Yes . . . they stretch proportionally with the amount of tension applied by tightening.

How much they stretch?? Never calculated it . . . it probably is not worth worrying about when calculating spoke length.

Spokecalc gave me 292.1

Butted spokes will stretch more then unbutted.........

The really thin 15/17 gauge Revolutions will stretch more then 14g strait spokes.

How much is too much?

I don't want to buy a box of 72 to find out I bought wrong. I can't find any spoke suppliers that will sell under a box on the 1.8/1.5's
