In early December we had a thread about the amount of daylight. At my latitude sunset is about a half hour later than it was in December, but sunrise is only about 5 minutes earlier. That is good news for the late afternoon ride. People in Oz and nearer the equator: disregard this thread.

I believe I mentioned one of my landmark dates in that last thread ... Jan 25th. That is our first day with a sunset after 5PM since Daylight Savings Time ended. I always look forward to that day.

Then this year when I go to Florida right after that, barring problems, I will see a 6PM sunset on Jan 29th.

Actually, here in Oz, I've noticed the same phenomenon. Except the sunset has an eerie emerald green haze to it this time of year.

I actually do not like the earlier onset of DST. I get to ride around midday so when the time changes it will mean that my rides will be colder, for a while at least.

Heck even here in the land of SAD I have noticed a bit more light. My wife and I were driving at about 5:00 pm and it wasn't full dark yet. I'm still not feeling the positive effects that comes later in February.

Have to wait till easter before I am happy about the lighter evenings on my midweek rides. Thats when my Favourite cafe opens up till 7 pm so I can get a decent coffee and pie on those cool evening rides.
