Glad to hear you are ok.
Sounds similar to the one I had August last year (http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/giantcfr1/BIKES%20My%20Bikes/Post%20Crash%20My%20ORBEA%20Mitis%202%20Plus%20Carbon/?start=all). My front wheel slid out from under me (I was doing something stupid though) and came down heavily on my helmet. Cracked it too, and like you, had this sudden urge to throw up.
Two months later (http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/giantcfr1/BIKES%20My%20Bikes/Post%20Crash%20GIANT%20CFR1/)I got hit by a motorbike and again landed on my other helmet.

I've been told that my current age is a bad one in Japan, that I was supposed to go to a temple and pray on my last birthday for safety. I only have a few weeks to my next birthday. I hope nothing happens before then. :(

Glad to hear you are ok. But how do you know the helmet saved your life? I know the doctor said so, but how did the doctor know?

Because the force of the hit cracked my helmet all the way through. The brunt of that hit was in my shoulder and head. Upon seeing my helmet, the doctor insisted on a cat scan, which they performed immediately. Had I not had a helmet on (and on correctly) at the time of impact, my head would have taken the full force of that. Based on her (the doctor was a woman who has seen many cyclists over the years who were admitted after having accidents during which they were not wearing helmets) experience, she could take a pretty educated guess that I would have died from a severe head injury. Since I don't have a lick of medical experience, I have a tendency to believe those who do and who work in emergency rooms where most of those types of injuries are sent.

My question is, why do people even want to question wearing helmets or their efficacy? Helmets do save lives and even if you didn't die from your head injury, you could end up drooling in a corner unable to take of yourself due to a life-altering head injury.

Yikes. Glad to hear you’re ok. I can’t help but cringe when I read stories like this and think of all the times I’ve ridden without a helmet when I was younger.

I'm very glad you're ok. You even still sound like you too, so that's a good sign. ;)

Hope your other injuries heal up quickly, and you can get back to riding (and flirting) soon.

Glad to hear you are okay. This sounds very like a crash I had last April--same hit on the shoulder and the head. And I completely agree with you that the helmet made a huge difference. I wound up with temporary short-term memory loss after my fall. (Literally, I couldn't remember how I got where I was. The last thing I remembered was starting my ride forty-five minutes earlier.) Heal up, soon. And get yourself a new helmet.
