Woohhhh hoooo!

Just finished my first tri today and it was a blast! Did Try Andy's Tri which is a sprint tri out in Houston Texas. (300 meter swim, 10 mile bike, 3 mile run)

First off it was raining and cool the whole race. (A very rare event in Houston). There were a little over 700 entries, not sure how many actually came out cause of the rain. The swim was in a 50m pool, so it was pretty crowded and people crawling all over each other.

The race went great. the swim was a little slow, the bike was fast even in the rain (ave 22.5mph) though I thought I could have pushed it harder. The run was my event. I had the fasted run overall with 17:17 (ave 5:46 mile).

Overall I was really happy, 2nd in my age group and 12th overall.

I found my trasition times to be really lacking. I even practiced them before hand, but compared to the winners I was slow. (T1 1:38, T2 1:08).

So now I am hooked and am going to start doing these often. They are great!

Glad you had a great 1st tri. You got the tri bug. Keep up those brick workouts and get maybe do 1 or 2 more tri's this year then hit the off season and come out faster next year. The transitions are a practice thing the more you do them the easier and faster they become.

Wow. A 5:46 avg mile? That's fast !! Congratulations. Averaging 22.5 MPH over 10 miles ain't shabby either!!

What's your age group? (Did I miss that?)

Thanks. I come from a running background (800m- 5ks), so that part comes really natural.

I think the bike section was short, so when they calculated the average speed, it seemed a bit high. I am thinking I was closer to 21.5mph.

I was in the 25-29 age group. A few competitors, but nothing like the 30-34 and 35-39. The top ten overall was made of up of mostly those guys.
