Pacific Northwest - In Austin now

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well, I have done it. I've moved to Austin, TX. My bike should arrive on the moving truck sometime next week so I haven't gone for a ride yet. It is flat and the access roads are really odd. But it was sunny and clear today.
I'll report back with pictures soon.
I'll miss the hills, the really tall trees, and the friends that I have made.

I've did a week of riding out in Hill Country.
Check out some of these rides; you won't be homesick for long.

There are some great hills in the Austin area and a good bike culture. Also the food and nightlife are fantastic. Enjoy your time there. Keep Austin weird!

Wait wait wait... WHAT? Flat, Austin? You're sure you're in Austin Texas, not Austin, uhh, Nebraska? There are plenty of climbing to be had in Austin, maybe not the hour long climbs of the Pacific NW, but there are plenty of routes that get 10k in climbing. Stop by the Texas regional forum and say hello there as well if you haven't already. There are plenty of Austin guys that hang around. I hope to get down that way myself again from Dallas this spring.

How can I forget you guys/gals?
I'm trying to figure out a way to convince my wife to let me fly back to go on RSVP. I've heard it is a great ride.

I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't already sold out.
Edit, I hate to tell you this:
RSVP 2008 is SOLD OUT

It may be flat right where you are, but Austin is in "The Hill Country" and there are sure plenty of hills in the region.
Austin seems to have quite a cycling interest- check into the Texas Forum at some point.

Well I guess it is going to have to be next year or STP. Of course I may be able to pickup an RSVP ticket as it gets closer and people pull out.

Good luck in Austin Dave. Was it the flooding a month or so back that chased you away :)
If you come back this way, let us know, maybe we could do that nice hilly Roesiger Lake loop again ;)

Good point, that's always a possibility.

I was in Austin once for a business meeting, and it was much prettier than I thought it would be. Come back soon, if you can!

RSVP sold out  that was fast. I was going to sign up as soon as I finished paying for the new bike. Oh well I will try to get a ticket later on as people drop out, or I will be a pirate since I have done it 3 times already and know the route pretty well. I will just have to pay for my own post ride brew :(
