I recently converted my cross bike to a 1x9 drivetrain using downtube shifters. I have Tektro aero installed currently but under a temporary basis. It's like a cold sore on a otherwise hot chick.

I really like the Campy Record carbon levers but the $180 price gives me diarrhea.

The Tektro R200A levers are basically clones of the Campy Record Carbons. If the silver lever bothers you that much, then buy the all black variety.

Or just ride your bike and stop playing dress-up with it, like it's a ****ing doll.

Shimano R600 - 113g per side
Campy Record - 105g per side.

BTW, why not get a Ritchey WCS 4 Axis stem and lose about 50 grams on your front end?

Downtube shifters with aero levers is sooooooo late 80s. Might as well get a set of Scott Drop-ins to complete the look.

Cane Creek also makes a more expensive version of the Tektro levers.
Why not find a set of older Dura-Ace of Ultegra aero levers with white hoods...?

no...not those. there were really nice D-A levers that were made during the downtube shifter era. They were anthracite levers with a polished lip where the top of the lever contacted the lower part of the front portion of the brake hood. i recall seeing them on that famous picture of Andy Hampsten in the Giro in full Motorola kit in the 90's when he won it....he (and the entire team) had those levers.

Weight is secondary, aesthetics and ergonomics really takes the cake for me.

Also, why are you mentioning a Ritchey stem? How do you suggest that in a thread for "fancy aero levers"? Anyway, compared to a Thomson or my ITM stem, I just don't like how the bar flexes under sprinting forces with the WCS series. I avoided the Syntace stems for the same reason, despite their nice weight.

your worried about performance(flexy stem) however you took the brifters off your cyclocross bike to put on downtube shifters i dunno about that

you could get the carbon levers only and press them into place replacing the aluminum tektro ones. :o

Here are levers that are still being made (that I can think of)...

Shimano type (like the Ultegra ones)
Campagnolo Record carbon
Tektro ergo copy type
Cane Creek and Soma glitzier versions thereof
LeeChi and Tektro nasty cheap ones
Dia Compe


There are plenty of cool ones that are out of production.

Modolo levers look really cool, and they made them for Sachs and Miche too.

You could try and find some of the (Gipiemme?) graphite levers (Cronosprint?) for more cool.

Other than that, you're left with older Shimano, Campagnolo and Suntour models. Campagnolo ones are nice looking, and chunky.

I have a pair of new in box Cane Creek levers with gum hoods that I might let go. Gum hoods rule!
