Looking for a vacation spot this year. Was wondering if anyone has a recommended beach in Texas.
I've never been to a beach there, and was looking at the Brownsville/S. Padre Island area, but not tied to that particular beach.
Any recommendations?

Port Aransas is good.

Stay away from Jsharr Beach. The sand is full of cigarette butts and broken glass, and there are ill-tempered sea bass in the water.

I've always thought our beaches were bad. Now Palm Beach's beaches are great!

Texas and beaches don't seem to go together.

I have been to south Padre twice it was great both times, nice sandy beaches even the public beaches.
We also stayed at the Raddison very nice hotel and beach.
Would not hesitate to go back right now especialluy sonce it's about -10 wind chill here in Nebraska now.
Have a great vacation.

Never have been to a Texas beach but it is my perception that any Florida beach would be way better. I'm not a fan of the gulf shore anyway.

Further south you go, the better they get typically.

Having grown up in Lake Worth, I can confirm the Palm Beach area has some great beach's. The Town of Palm Beach however, too many upper crust pinheads that you don't want to have to deal with and they have minimal parking. Go to Singer Island, Lake Worth, Lantana or Boynton Beach or hit some of the keys. Or take a $90 flight to the Bahama's out of West Palm, Ft. Lauderdale or Miami

Texas beaches are good if you like to share your experience with tarballs and joe bob and his 4X4

I'd recommend something else. You might be able to find a clean beach, but for the most part, Texas beaches are the receiving ground for any waste too noxious to be disposed by normal means (one reason why medical waste winds up on beaches -- its a lot cheaper to take a ship a couple miles offshore into international waters, dump it where absolutely nobody can do a darn thing about it, and head back in, than it is to dispose it the normal way.)

Alabama beaches are pretty good. Gulf Shores is getting expensive, but still a bit cheaper than Florida.
