Hi, I am new to the forum, from Toronto, and looking for suggestions on paved routes. I cycled the bike paths in the Tampa/St. Pete area in December and was blown away by how long and well-maintained these paths were (Pinellas Trail, Suncoast Trail, Withlacoochee). Does anyone know of similar paths in the Miami/Ft Laud area, or anywhere else in South Florida? If not, I'm heading back to Tampa in February because its damn cold up here.

Thanks

Go to any bike shop and ask for the Bicycle Suitability Map. I used this to plan my commuting route - it shows where the bike paths are as well as color-codes the roads to show which are motorist-heavy. I know Jim's Cycle shop on Powerline in Pompano Beach has these maps.

It's certainly an adventure to ride down here! But the coastal route A1A is pretty scenic if you're looking for long, attractive rides.

Click on my pirate head for Generic FL. stuff.
A1A is beautiful. Jupiter Island, etc etc.......There are some
great places. Offset by ~the~ worst, most deadly drivers
this side of Calcutta.

If you're looking for group rides there are a few to chose from in the SW part of Broward, ranging in both size and ability. If you're going to ride in Miami- Dade I would stay south of Downtown Miami, there are places to ride from Key Biscayne all the way to the Homestead.

If you want more info let me know. John

Hey John, thanks for the info. A buddy and I just booked F. Laud Feb 22-25 and so, thanks to great feedback from the forum, we now seem to have a couple of days of riding mapped out. Would like to learn more about the Key Biscane to Homestead areas. More info/links on group rides in the area could come in handy as well in case the timing works out. We are not fast riders, probably more middle of the pack.
Thanks John and everyone else for the great advice.
