A week or two ago, she called me to tell me of the great deal she got on a new vacuum cleaner that was "ON SALE" at Macy's or somesuch.

I found it online at BestBuy, availble for pickup at a store within a few miles of our house for 15% less. Women see the word "SALE" and go into robotic shopping mode.

You betcha. About 6 months ago I bought a 37" LCD TV. Cheapest price I could find on ANY 37" LCD at a store was about $800. I picked up a refurb that has been perfect out of the box from day 1 for about $450 from Newegg.
