I took delivery of my brand new Cannondale on Saturday afternoon, been waiting for a month or so with much anticipation !! I was moving up from a hand me down, hand built steel framed Graham Weigh bike, which is now showing rust and wear and tear. Therefore I was extremely keen to ride it yesterday to wipe a good couple of minutes off my PB for my regular training route. Guess what !! at least 1 mpg ave slower on the new bike !! Devastating. I was just hoping that it was new bike over expectancy setting in. Anyone else experienced this phenomenon.

I would not let one ride get you down... base it on after you have about 4-5 rides in on it.

Are you using the same computer? or did you get a new one? if so make sure that it is calibrated right... even if its the old one you need to reset for tire size?

Good luck! I am sure that you will like your new ride

For sure, I use a mini GPS, so that should be accurate enough. I probably was sub-conscieously feeling out the new bike, I definately recall messing about with the gear ratio's a number of times, trying to ge tuned into the new bike, so I probably didnt give 100% to the ride.

Cycling well is 80% rider. 20% bike.

A thought: how accurate is your GPS (i.e. is it an old model that's no better than 10 meters)? A speedo is many times more accurate if it's calibrated correctly.

Be careful too about the bearings in the wheels and the bottom bracket. Fresh from the factory these could take a few miles to wear in, as I recently found out with my new bike.

Wow! I have never heard of being slower on a new bike! I find the opposite to be true. On a new bike, I tend to push harder, climb in a bigger gear and every sprint gets full attention. Quit messing around with your gear and ride!
