I took it for a while, following each of two ACL reconstructions.

First time, I thought it helped some. Second time, I don't think I noticed any change at all. Makes me think the first go-round was placebo effect.

I got a supplement from a manufacturer on a fitness forum (Osteobolin-C from Applied Nutriceuticals), kept pretty detailed records, and I would say it definitely helped with my joint and muscle soreness.

I definitely noticed a difference between my workouts without the supplement versus the same routine while taking the supplement.

My $0.02.

I use it every day. I can't say that it's a really big help, but I do feel somewhat better when I take it than when I don't. I'd say I was tighter when I don't take it. YMMV.

I started taking it about 2 months ago. I have one knee that burns after about an hour on the bike, I can literally feel the heat in the joint. Since I started taking it, I feel much less stress on the joint. It may be all in my head there is enough perceived effect for me to keep going.

I got the stuff from GNC, just for reference

some do that.

one that does not (gas) is Schiff brand...can find it at costco

since I started taking it last year, I don't know quantifiably if it is really working, but
I do know I am riding a hell of a lot more, and want to ride all the time...not wimping out
from foot or knee issues

Glucosomine/Chondtroitin/MSM . . . have in over a quarter million bicycling miles and at age 75 am still riding 100+ miles a week.
Been taking the stuff for about 10 years. Certainly works for me.

whoa ! ! great

Costco has these orange chewey things that are really yummy and I feel I probably get better absorption.....

"people with pictures of themselves in their avatar or signature have issues..."
or maybe we just like photography and want to be creative? Horn honkin' aggro people in NJ have issues from what I saw. (lol)

please consider omega-3"s---a high quality pharm grade(no heavy metal contamination-- fish oil does wonders for arthritis.

Glucosamine does tend to be a little bit hard on the digestive system. I've got to take it with food or I'll be sick.

However, I took it for a year, several years ago, when I was having a lot of knee pain, and it seemed to get rid of the knee pain and keep it away. Prior to taking it, I had to ice my knees after every longish/hardish ride (and nowhere near long compared with what I do now) because my knees were in agony. I started taking it, and the next longish/hardish ride I came in ... and my knees were fine. :) And they continued to be fine as I increased my distances.

I use Osteo Bi-Flex, because it's easier on the stomach. I've been taking it for about a year now and I feel like a new person. It took about 3 months to kick in, but you'll know it when it does. I read somewhere that the Wal-Mart brand ( Spring Valley ) is suppose to be a good one, but when I told my doctor what I was going to do he suggested the Osteo Bi-Flex. Sometimes you have to spend a little more to get the good stuff, if you don't it may not work as well.

The farts are from the sulfur. Sulfate reducing bacteria in the gut convert the sulfate into very smelly compounds like thiols and sulfides, etc. The hydrochloride salt version won't make your gas reek. However, some believe that the sulfur plays an active role (MSM supplementation basis) and that a portion of the effects attributed to glucosamine may actually be from the sulfur; so you may want to stick with the sulfate salt.

Another regular rider/exerciser chiming in with mixed results, but mostly positive.

My MD suggested it for achey knees about five years ago. All my results are anecdotal and subjective, but I think the better brands have helped much of the time. I still take it, which tells you something.

Scroll down to the Clinical Trials section. There has been a lot of controversy about Glucosamine, I cant remember the study, but a few years ago everyone was saying it doesn't work. I took it for a while for an ankle injury i have, i cant really say it helped. But if you think it works stick with it! The only thing is you will spend a lot of money on that stuff!
I took a combination of Fish Oil, Borage Oil and Flax Oil pills for the Omega 3,6, & 9. I felt that it worked better than the glucosamine treatment for my Arthritic ankle. and everyone agrees that at the very least Omega Oils are good for you. I dont think you could find a doctor that would tell you to not take fish oil, but many are skeptical of Glucosamine...
just my $.02
