I spoke too soon...fog has now rolled in up here as well :p . And there's still frost on the roofs!

I rode the last two days, Wednesday I rode 55 miles, and Thursday 41 miles. Both days were sunny and warm, I rode west of Eugene in the rolling ranch and farm land of the Willamette Valley.
This is Petzold Road just west of town.

did a nice 20 mile run with my Brother and his wife yesterday. Rode from Alki to Myrtle Edwards, checked out the sculpture park. Leave it to Seattle to have an exhibit on a Bike trail and almost no place to lock up your bike. We had the same problem at the market. The only downside of the day is I decided to tip over and fall at the end of the ride. Noe my butt hurts and I am a little gimpy today.

I commuted 15 minutes today. It was miserable, I might take the MAX home if this keeps up.
Yesterday was another story. 36 miles and almost 4 hours of riding in Forest Park. It was great!

But don't wait until August to come down the valley and enjoy riding in the Eugene area:D Anyone coming to this area can have the free Shifty tour!
Actually I was thinking of the covered bridge ride in Corvallis, but the Blackberry ride looks nice. I'm only worried about this quote in the description:
"Wolf creek is a strenuous climb"...how strenuous exactly (I need numbers, grades, miles...:p). I'm still working on my lungs here and not sure what kind of strenuous climbs I can handle in the August heat:o. Give me the pep talk:D

Did my commute today it was right at 32 degrees in Sumner when I left. Beauriful ride home. Looks like tomorrow is going to be a repeat of today.

That climb isn't so bad, but you can judge for yourself. It climbs about 900 feet over 3 - 4 miles, maybe 8 percent grade. It comes at about 38 miles from the start, and a lunch stop is 10 miles after the top. If you get started at 7:00 am, you'll reach the base of the climb by 9:30 - 10:30, it's usually still cool by then.

Great, that is the info I was looking for!! So helpful. I think by summer I *may* be able to conquer that! :o

Hmmm, well I'm planning on heading down to Northern California around March 31st, and will probably stop in Eugene for the night...

I would be great to meet you East Hill. You get a tour if you have the time, I assume you'll have bikes.

I will be bringing the Richard Sachs bike so that all the Bay Area C & Vers can ogle her :D .
I would really enjoy the tour. I'll get back with you as my departure gets closer, so I can estimate what time I will be there.

Today was my first real ride since Saturday. I still have this rotten cold, but I can finally inhale without breaking into a coughing fit. I had to leave school early to go to my doctor's appt. I got a scrip for antibiotics and good cough syrup (with codeine!) Boy, the day really cleaned up from this morning, though!
I went home by my alternate route, down the big hill and past Capitol Lake, then through town on Legion. Saw the Oly bike police relaxing at the Starbuck's. Tipped my helmet to 'em. I've had plenty worse rides than that.

It was a nice afternoon for a 27-mile loop through rural Whatcom County, up out of Bellingham on Northwest, then zigzag east on Wiser Lake Rd and back south on Hannegan. Northwest and Hannegan have a fair amount of traffic (but good surface and wide shoulders), but the wind wash from the big trucks passing me pulled me along. Wiser Lake is chip seal, but you get the reward of having Mt. Baker views in front of you instead of off to the side. Averaged 17.1, which isn't bad for me.

I rode the Centennial Trail from Snohomish to Arlington today. It was cold and rainy (and there was still snow on the ground in some places) but at least the trail was mostly empty :).

What a difference a few hills makes in my average speed. Monday I did my regular 32-mile loop out around Lummi Peninsula, which is mostly flat with gentle undulations. Never used the small ring on my triple. Averaged 17.4 mph.
Today I rode up Barkley hill, then out North Shore to the end, backtracked to pick up Y Road up to Mt. Baker Hwy, then back into town. Lots of time with the small ring while climbing, but I kept spinning at a decent rate. Averaged 15.7 over the 27.74 miles.
I'm still getting comfortable on my new Novara Randonee, which still has less than 100 miles on it. I think I don't like the saddle and will replace it with the one from my old bike.
