Pancreatitis rates a 10, when the pancreas starts to digest itself it's very painful.
Well, bad pancreas! Bad! Feed it next time so it doesn't do that.

Take 2 vicodin every 4-6 hours until the pain goes away.

I'm confused. Do you mean you had kidney stones twice or it would be preferable to be gored by a bull twice? Cause if you meant the latter, I would think being gored once should suffice.

Is ranting allowed on this thread? 'Coz this day deserves both a whine and a rant.
I woke up this morning with a monster migraine at freaking 2am, and it took me about an hour to get back to sleep so I could wake up again at 4:30am to start my daily cycling + public transpo slog to Westwoodland. I guess it was a bad idea to try to sleep again because when I woke up, it was 6:20 already--I was so out of it that I didn't wake up to my alarm. If I leave my house anytime after 6:10, I'm late for my 9am class, because of the peculiarities of the Metro bus schedules.
I got dressed at the speed of light and stuffed everything in my bag and was about to jump on my bike when lo and behold--the chain had gotten removed. I had to spend around 5min wrestling with the greasy chain, re-greasing the chain, and going back inside to wash the icky stuff off my hands. JEEZ.
Now I was SUPER late for class. I had to forgo most of my cycling commute and throw my baby on the bus instead of riding him. Then I got stuck in traffic on Sunset, which made me cranky and irritable, wishing I was on the bike zipping by the vehicles instead of stuck inside one. I arrived 30mins late for my class, then belatedly I remember that the TA only accepts homework during the first 10mins, and anything after is late.
Then, after that, I remembered that I forgot to bring my passport and miscellaneous documents so that my choir can send them off to this company that will procure Chinese visas for all of us. Since I can't very well magically summon them to me right now, I'm on my own with dealing with the Chinese embassy, and you know how disgusting it is to deal with other people's governments with the lines and the red tape and the AAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!! Accio documents! It's not working...
So now I have a headache, I'm cranky and irritable, I got 10pts off my homework, and I have to run around the Chinese embassy to convince them that no, I am not a terrorist and/or illegal alien, and I will not spread disease--I just need a visa so I can sing in Beijing and Shanghai w/ my choir. Sigh.
The only good thing about this day is that it's teh bf's and my 11-month anniversary (lunasary? monthsary?) and I will be getting much needed loving later on in the day.
Ok, sorry about the long rant/whine. Just needed to let it all out.
Edit: It never rains but it pours--guess who had to ride home in wet in the dark, without any raingear at all? :(

Neko,, not to take anything away from your rant, but singing in China sounds cool. Is it around Olympic time?
And don't worry about the 10 points on the homework. I am still try to shake the comments my 2nd grade Principal wrote on my "permanent" record.

Well, it IS very cool, which is why I'm going through all the trouble. It's also a gift for myself, since we're going the week of my b-day. It's just...the red tape in getting the visa isn't fun.
We're going during Spring Break (late March)--the plan was originally for around Olympic time but we couldn't get accommodations for 100+ people as everything is booked. I'll be getting the mascot stuffed toys while there though. :D

I'm finally coming to terms with the fact that I'll probably never get to ride again, so I guess that's something to whine about. I've got the sh**iest knees out there and cycling just makes things so much worse. I'm going to take a few more days to admire the full Record hand made Italian steel bike that decorates my room and then part it out and start selling it :(
On the up side, I'll officially offer up my services for SAG anytime people need it for weekend rides :)

Heather, that's not good. :( Have you been aligned properly to the bike? Normaly, riding shouldn't cause damage to the knees if you are in the right shoes, cleats and aligned correctly. But then again, I don't know what you are dealing with, so forgive me if you have already tried everything.

Yeah I've done all the traditional fit stuff. I'm 23 and have had 3 knee surgeries on one knee already and I'm trying to hold out as long as I can before doing a total knee replacement. I can ride on a stationary bike at a slow pace for a little while but anything other than that just really gets painful. I've taken up kayaking and am back at rockclimbing and swimming, so I'm finding things to fill the giant cycling void in my life

I'm sorry to hear about your knees. You are too young to have to deal with that, but what doesn't kill you will make you stronger, or so my mom likes to remind me. I can't swim worth crap but admire those who do, and who knows, you may fall in love with it - and rockclimbing is an awesome workout! Anyway, you hang in there.

It helps that my boyfriend is just as gimpy as I am (he's got a bad hip from an old football injury), so he's sympathetic and is limited to a lot of the same activities that I am. You'll never see us out running together :D

I had two knee surgeries, once when I was 19 and again when I was twenty and have always had difficulty (I could hurt myself walking, and have many times) but since I've started the cycling my knee has become a lot stronger and stable.
Fit is important, have you had a professional fitting? Also, when was the last time you had knee surgery? Did you do PT after each surgery?

I find it strange that you can rock climb but not cycle. I would think that you would be able to strengthen the knee to the point where you can cycle again. I wouldn't force it, and it might take awhile, but I wouldn't give it up totally.

It's not so much a strength thing as it is the repetitive motion that really bothers me. I've got an ACL that is frayed and a patella that doesn't track straight, so repetitive movements cause a lot of pain after a short period of time. I've been trying to get back on the bike for 3 years, so this isn't a quick decision by any means.

I have been fitted a few times, last surgery was 3/7/07 and I did PT for 5 months after and still see an athletic trainer once a week at school. I'm a PTA myself and work in a clinic so I've done all I (and my resources) can think of to fix this thing without more surgery.

Ugh, I know! After slogging through the rain this week and ruining my helmet by dropping it into a puddle of muck you'd think I'd get some nice dry riding time on the weekend, but nooooooooo. Hafta buy a new helmet. Oh, and new helmet light too, but thank god it was a cheap dollar store light.

Okay, back to really whining...
So, I took one codeine pill this morning, with food (I am allowed up to two). It didn't make a dent in the sour shoulder, so I decided I'd try two. That was about 45 minutes ago.
Well, I just threw up in the bathroom. My stomach (more like my chest...???) started hurting so badly and I was so nauseated suddenly. I made it to the bathroom in time (thank goodness).
But the force of wretching has now set my shoulder on fire and my neck is killing me.
Can't one of you shoot me and put me out of my misery...
