View Full Version : Armpit Shaving Thread

Maybe it is because I fail at the search function but I can't seem to find any threads relating specifically to armpit shaving.

By showering regularly and using deodorant I can usually keep the stink away but after prolonged sweaty activities such as cycling I often find that I'm smelly. It isn't so bad that I feel the need to see a Dr. about prescription deodorant but I have heard rumors that armpit shaving can significantly reduce the funk. The logic behind it seems pretty sound- underarm hair harbors the stinky bacteria and offers additional surface area for them to grow and multiply. Removing the hair cuts down on surface area and hiding places for the bad bugs.

Can anyone (male or female) step up and tell me if shaving my "shoulder mustaches" will offer any noticable benefit?

Edit: Not that it matters, but I'm a guy.

if they are hiding behind the hair, close your eyes (best to do this by covering them with your hands), count to 10, then raise your arms over your head and yell "ready or not, here I come." The bad bugs will probably leave and find a new place to hide on a sane person.

I closely trim with clippers for dancing - it works but obviously not completely.

Can you smell your armpits and then smell your butt crack and tell me which one smells worse. This is a serious question.

Armpit hair retains stink molecules.

That stink is part of what makes you, you. Eliminating that is like a will to nothingness. Plus then you'll have no chance with the ladies.

Baby powder works better than any deodorant I've ever tried. Bacteria need warm, moist places to thrive, so just take away the moisture. Works for me.

I've done it a few times, just for the hell of it. It's interesting, but ultimately I don't think it's worth the trouble.

"Has anyone ever coated themselves head to toe with shaving cream, and just shaved everything all at once?"

Or better yet: NAIRED themselves all at once!! :eek:I've wondered about that. Bathtub full of Nair, and jump in. Smooth!

I've never used the stuff, though, and don't know much about it. People seem to recoil at the mention of it, so maybe it wouldn't be such a hot idea.
