Foo - Facebook and the new breakup and why i'm such a p***y

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Facebook has to have changed the way people breakup and i'm no exception. As some of you guys know i've kind of met a new lady...a few days ago some photos were put up of her and i together and my ex girlfriend mentioned it in a conversation online (she knows her). She admitted her jealousy at the photos and the conversation the new girl and i had on facebook.

Yet, even in my newly found happiness, i see photos of my ex all over guys at some party and it fills me with a peculiar rage and sadness...thus i'm a putang in my own right .

And for some comedic relief...

I have this friend who is a total panzy when it comes to women. This is the guy who, while getting a lap dance, is trying to convince a stripper of her worth. He lives in Portland, a friend of ours who he got a cuddly with over winter break goes to school at purdue. Without talking to her about it, he takes the step of adding her as his girlfriend on facebook...wow did that cause a snuff.

I envy the pre-social networking days of dating, i really don't know what that's like but it has to have been vastly different.

Wow, as computer literate as I think I am...

I am still an old man and have not quite kept up with the times...

I can honestly say I have never been to Facebook or the other one...

Edit...I remember now the other one is My Space but isn't there a third...

See I am not that far out of it...

Yeah... Timmy, maybe it's an idea to remove the ex as a FB friend. At least until you can get to a point where you don't care.

Just sayin'

I actually did that initially, might be a good idea though...for both of us. Perhaps it's stupid, but we both want to maintain a friendship of some sort...

A berkman center lunchtime talk by danah boyd on social networking, dating and teenage expression. Yes, it's social "pseudo" science but it's interesting in a "glad I'm not a teenager in the contemporary suburban wasteland" way.

From one psych major to another, it's alright that you try to understand what is going on with this situation but, if you spend more and more time observing yourself in relation to your ex you're going to hurt even longer. Yes, you have gotten better so I'm happy to see that but, please try and get past this. To be honest, your ex isn't worth your time. Ok, she admitted her jealousy...so what. Why should you care? You two aren't together anymore so don't let what she says about your new happiness bother you. Shrug it off and move on in your life.

Oh...i don't care at all. In fact when she told me that i was filled with some sort of cynical pride

I'm fine because i'm going to go home and call that saucy red head and forget all about this hooplah. :o I'm just sitting in day 1 of an American foreign policy class and felt the need to fill the void with some facebook creeping...

Yeah. It is stupid. If you were in a serious relationship it is ridiculous to try and stay friends. Nothing wrong with being cordial but with deep emotions that are involved in a serious romantic relationship, i don't think there are many who can handle remaining friends, and definitely can't handle watching them hook up with other people on facebook or anywhere else.

It will probably be years before you will be comfortable with something like that. So the answer is to get the hell away from each other both online and in real life. It's over. Move on. Print this post and take it with you to your 20 year High School reunion.

You can trust me on this one...."you'll be glad it didn't work out!"

I'll never understand the concept of trying to remain friends with your ex. Maybe after a couple of years, but how you go from boinking to just being buddies is beyond me. Although, I did convince my last ex to remain "f**k buddies" after we broke up. And I would say that's worked out well so far, but we don't really talk.

I've been friends with her for nearly 7 years. We didn't break up because of some argument, fight, or affair. We both just realized that we no longer treated each other as lovers...i have no angst towards her and i'm sure she feels the same way. Going from boinking to buddies is one thing, but going from best friends to enemies is beyond me. But again, i'm not very practiced on this topic.

I get the sarcasm but i don't get how you can justify it. Though i don't agree with the notion, there is some credence to this statement when you're talking about something like a message board but photographs on facebook of people i know are a little different.

Besides, she'd have to be my friend on facebook to be my GF on facebook ;)
