any idea if they fit into the "difficult to get tire on" category?

If so, I'll probably settle for open pro CDs... anyone know where I can get some in 28h?

nope, they're not hard to get a tire on. at least not the older ones, pre-wolber acquisition of mavic.

MA40s are one of my all-time favorite rims, and the only tires I've ever had a problem getting onto them were the rivendell rolly-pollys in 700x28. Everything else has been smooth as silk.

ebay is probably your best bet and that is probably a longshot. awesome classic looking box rims, but once i took the lightest hit in foot down and totally bent an ma40.

looks like no.
check ebay, there are some 32hole but no 28's now.

I'd be shooting a disapproving glance at your wheelbuilder if I were you, an MA40 wheelset I built up a decade and a half ago is still rolling after all kinds of abuse.

ps: i was drunk when i built it

jim bob is my hero for the day.

i can pretty much toss a soft tri tire at my open pro and get it on there.
conti ultra sports on the other hand i have to fight with, i think it more matters on the tires than the rims

I had a very hard time getting a tire on one, but I know it was the tire. Conti Ultra Sports the king of difficult to mount tires. I haven't had any trouble mounting other tires on them though (Conti Gatorskins or GP4000).
