Does anybody shades with RX inserts?

rudy project has rx inserts, but you cant put them in all their glasses, inclucing the tayo's which are the coolest in my opinion.

Unfortunetly Rudy are the most expensive too.
I've also been looking for good glasses that I can rx. I figure I can justify spending $100 on cycling glasses if I can also use them for driving etc.
Has anyone actually done this? Do you just buy the glasses on-line and then bring the inserts to your optometrist? Is having an extra insert in there a pain?
I know that Performance will do the RX for you. You just have to get an appointment with your optometrist and get an updated RX. Usually, if you have gone a year without an update, it is time for an update. One of the fellows I bike with has the inserts and loves them.
Cool. The performace deal seems pretty sweet. But does anyone make glasses with interchangable lenses (including clear) that don't look goofy? I'd be nice if they looked like normal wrap arounds. The eye-sheild look is cool when you're one the bike trying to pretend you're Lance, but ... well you get the idea? :) Am I stuck buying a regular pair of perscription sun glasses also?

An optometrist friend has a machine that uses the glasses frame itself as a template to cut the lens. Unlike the old style machine (which was limited by an external template for each frame type) this allows him to fit almost any frame with the lens of choice. My wife does this with each round of new glasses. She's not too fond of the 'wrap' look either. She gets her prescription in both regular and 'sun' glasses. She typically chooses a different frame for each then chooses the type, color, gradient, coatings, etc... for the lenses separately. Works very nicely and your not relegated to the public offerings.
All the Shades with inserts look goofey if you ask me. Except for the Rudy adn Oakley.

I was looking at getting some Oakley Frogskins. They seem to fit well, which is rare on my big noggin.
Does anyone have a pair of these glasses? I am trying to find a deal out there but am not finding much luck. They wouldn't even come down 10 bucks at the bike shop. And the polarized seem oh so nice, but whats up with them being twice the price? Sheesh. Do you really get what you pay for? Anyone....Anyone...?

It's just my opinion but I think your paying for the name on some of the glasses. I looked really hard at Oakley's and wasn't impressed at all. I got a pair of Smith Slider Buzzsaw's at Performance for 50 bucks. Marked down half price. Three sets of lenses. The quality seems better than the Oakley's I've looked at. But full price Smith's aren't cheap either.

I agree about the name. And I've checked out Smiths too. I like the interchangable lenses. If I could get a pair for 50, that would be nice. I'll have to check Performance.
Thanks,
Dave
